Whenever we talk about going on business trips, the first thing that comes to mind is usually a laptop. However, in recent years, with the continuous release of products like MINI PCs and NUCs, the office computers we carry on business trips are no longer limited to laptops. These compact mini-computers are mostly very small in size, and equipped with numerous interfaces, allowing them to connect to various monitors and other devices. From a light office perspective, they can even be more convenient than laptops with fewer ports.

Asus has also placed great importance on this, launching four series of products targeting the MINI PC market. There are the PN and VC series aimed at commercial use, as well as the TS series positioned as pocket computers and the PA series for creative design. Today, I have the latest Asus PN series PN62, which is equipped with an Intel 10th generation Core i7-10510U low-power processor and comes pre-installed with a genuine Windows 10 system.

Appearance Analysis: Compact and Low-key

The first impression of the Asus PN62 is its compactness, measuring only 115mm*115mm*49mm, with a volume of just 0.62L. It can easily fit into any backpack, and if your clothes’ pockets are large enough, it’s no problem to carry it with you. Mobile office has never been so convenient.

On the front, the Asus PN62 features a power button (with an LED light), a USB 3.1 Gen1 Type-A port, a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C port, a 4-in-1 SD/MMC/MS/MS PRO card reader, an infrared receiver, an audio interface, and two tiny microphones. The two microphones support Microsoft’s Cortana voice assistant, making your work and study easier. The dual microphone arrangement can accurately capture voice information even in noisy environments.

On the back, we can see that Asus has put a lot of effort into cooling for the PN62, with vents on the sides and the top of the back to maximize the cooling speed of key internal components.

Let’s take a look at the accessories of the PN62, which basically include a power adapter, a pack of mounting screws for a 2.5-inch SSD/HDD, and a bracket for users to fix the PN62 on the back of the monitor, maximizing the reduction of desktop space usage.

The power adapter is manufactured by Delta Electronics, outputting 19V-3.42A, equivalent to 65W of power supply, which is consistent with the 65W PD fast charging requirement mentioned above.

PN62 Disassembly Experience: Easy to Disassemble and Upgrade

The disassembly of the PN62 is extremely easy; you just need to unscrew the four screws on the bottom and gently slide it off to remove the bottom cover, allowing users to easily upgrade their configurations.

Upon opening, we first see the PN62’s built-in SSD, which is a SanDisk X600 M.2 SSD that uses a SATA interface, with a theoretical transfer rate of 6.0Gbps.

The memory is an 8GB single stick from SK Hynix, with a frequency of 2666MHz, and there is a SO-DIMM DDR4 laptop memory slot at the bottom, allowing users to upgrade to dual-channel use.

Above the SSD, there is also a power/data interface for a 2.5-inch SSD/HDD. Users can secure it using the screws included in the accessories to install a 2.5-inch hard drive.

Usage Experience and Testing: No Pressure for Light Gaming and Office Work

The CPU model of the Asus PN62 is the Intel Core i7-10510U, which is actually a 15W TDP low-power mobile processor with 4 cores and 8 threads, making it absolutely sufficient for daily office tasks.

This CPU has a base frequency of 1.8GHz and a maximum single-core turbo frequency of 4.9GHz, with an 8MB L3 Cache.

I ran the built-in benchmark test of CPU-Z, where the single-thread score was 374 and the multi-thread score was 1583.6, which is equivalent to the previous desktop-level i7-2600K.

In practice, this CPU can boost to 4.55GHz under low load without issues, which is quite high.

Now, let’s take a look at the full load situation. During the R20 benchmark, it can be seen that this i7-10510U can maintain a frequency of 2.42GHz, which is slightly higher than the base frequency, and considering this is a 15W low-power processor, this frequency is quite good.

In the Cinebench R20 benchmark test, the i7-10510U scored 1212 in multi-core and 421 in single-core. This score is significantly better than the standard i7-6700HQ processors found in laptops a few years ago.

Next, let’s take a look at the performance of the built-in SSD of the Asus PN62. Since it uses a SATA interface, the speed isn’t surprising, but with random read/write speeds over 500MB/s, it is sufficient for office use. If you’re not satisfied with this speed, you can replace it with an NVMe SSD, which the PN62 also supports.

In terms of memory, the PN62 comes with an 8GB single-channel memory stick with a frequency of 2666MHz and timings of 19-19-19-43 2T. Users can install another memory stick to achieve dual-channel performance, which is better.

The GPU is the integrated UHD graphics that comes with the processor, supporting up to 4K at 60 frames output, which is more than enough for general office users.

To see how well the integrated graphics perform, I played a game of League of Legends on the PN62 at 1080P medium settings, and during the laning phase, the frame rate could reach over 60 FPS. Although it might not maintain 60 FPS during team fights, lowering the effects is still an option. The PN62 should have no problem handling casual gaming alongside daily office tasks.

The experience with the Asus PN62 has been quite positive. Both its performance and portability have left me very satisfied. Sometimes when we go to another place for work, it’s not that we lack a computer; the destination may very well have a computer, monitor, and keyboard. However, your data and operating system cannot be easily transported. Even if you bring your hard drive and connect it, the efficiency is low.
