◉ Are Domestic Virtualization Products’ Supporting Software Mature?The financial industry has high requirements for business continuity and data security, so it uses various extensible software to ensure data safety, such as VCenterHA, virtual machine CDP protection (EMC RecoverPoint for VM), unified backup platforms (NBU, Commvault), cross-data center extended clusters, VAAI technology, etc. Are there mature supporting products for domestic solutions?*The question comes from community member @loveoct10th, a system engineer at a commercial bank in a certain city. The following shares are from community peers for your reference.
@nkj2021, System Architect at a securities company:
Domestic solutions have indeed provided relatively mature supporting products to ensure business continuity and data security in the financial industry. These products are designed with the special needs of the financial sector in mind, such as high availability, data integrity, security, and scalability.In terms of virtualization, domestic virtualization software like Huawei FusionSphere and H3C CAS have already provided high availability cluster features similar to VCenterHA. These features can automatically migrate virtual machines to other healthy nodes in the event of hardware or software failures, thus ensuring business continuity. Additionally, these domestic virtualization software also offer features like virtual machine snapshots and incremental backups, similar to virtual machine CDP protection, effectively safeguarding data security.
Regarding unified backup platforms, many domestic vendors have launched mature products, such as Inspur and Lenovo. These backup platforms can support various data types and storage devices, providing flexible backup strategies and recovery solutions to ensure data reliability and integrity.
Moreover, for advanced features like cross-data center extended clusters and VAAI technology, some domestic virtualization products have also provided corresponding support. These features can further enhance the availability and performance of virtualization environments, meeting the financial industry’s demands for high scalability and high performance.
@yingbq, Basic Platform Manager at an automotive group:
Some better domestic software can match about 80% of VMware’s capabilities, though the implementation methods and operational habits differ significantly.
@努力搬砖, System Operation and Maintenance Engineer at a joint-stock bank:
Domestic virtualization has been around for several years, and many companies in the financial industry have already replaced their systems. Overall, the supporting products are relatively mature, especially from leading vendors, where the support is quite comprehensive, and functionalities can be validated through POC testing based on requirements.
@waring_id, Technical Manager at a company:
There are corresponding product solutions, and the basic functionalities of virtualization are completely fine, but there are still significant gaps in high availability and unified operational management details.
The gap in disaster recovery and backup software is even larger, requiring more drills and validations.
@pysx0503, System Engineer:
Overall, the domestic virtualization products from several major manufacturers are relatively mature. As alternatives to VMware, integration with backup products is also not an issue. Especially now, some domestic backup products, like Aisou and Dingjia, are also quite mature, and implementing basic virtualization functions is not a problem. However, due to their shorter development time, some detailed issues still exist, and the knowledge base is not complete, so when problems arise, one can only rely on support from the original manufacturers.
@Banking Industry User:
The mainstream domestic virtualization platforms are also quite well-supported. Their products, to some extent, reference some functionalities of VMware during the design phase. However, as mentioned above, there are indeed differences in usage habits and other aspects compared to VMware. If you want to try, you can pull a few mainstream manufacturers to conduct a POC to compare functionalities, as many technical implementations differ between domestic solutions and VMware. Since a change is inevitable, it’s best to have a baseline and conduct a POC to identify the most mature domestic solution that can meet your needs.
@JAGXU, Storage Operation and Maintenance Management:
Achieving 90% of the capabilities of foreign brands is already quite good.
@Software Development Industry User:
Domestic vendors are too fragmented and need consolidation. Moreover, there should be free versions for learning and market cultivation; it seems that domestic companies lack this awareness.
