The Allwinner H6 chip, launched in 2017, is a high-performance SoC aimed at the OTT, DVB, and IPTV markets. This SoC features a quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU based on the ARM architecture, and its GPU is the ARM Mali T720, supporting OpenGL 3.1, DDR4, and EMMC 5.0. The chip’s performance has improved by 77% compared to the previous generation. In terms of video capabilities, it supports H.265 decoding at 4K@60fps, with a maximum resolution of 6K (5780×2890). It supports HDR 10 and HLG and integrates the Allwinner Smartcolor 3.0 intelligent image quality engine. The H6 maintains the industry’s highest standards in terms of stream compatibility, video smoothness, and image quality enhancement. For audio, it supports Dolby and DTS. The H6 also offers various high-speed interfaces, including USB 3.0, PCIe 2.0, and Gigabit Ethernet, making it highly versatile.
Currently, there are several development boards based on the Allwinner H6 SoC available for purchase on various platforms, and the H6 chip is also easy to obtain. This SoC is a good choice for PCB design enthusiasts or layout engineers looking for a hands-on project.
