PADT is our partner in Tempe, Arizona, currently preparing for the annual Halloween-themed open house. In this process, we utilize the ATOS Q structured light scanning system to scan wax figures and create replicas through 3D printing.
Fine Details of 3D Scanned Miniature Statues
To host the annual open house event, PADT Inc., from our global partner network, is looking for intricate and interesting display pieces to showcase the powerful capabilities of 3D inspection and 3D printing. We welcome families, friends, and clients every year to view these internal technologies. To maintain this tradition, they have chosen to procure the display pieces from a local shop. The small black cat candle seems to perfectly meet the current task’s requirements.
Data Generation for 3D Printing
To capture all the details of the wax figure, the mobile structured light 3D scanner ATOS Q with a measurement volume of 350 was selected. The scanning process is simple and easy, requiring no complicated preparations: no scanning powder is needed, and just 3-4 reference points are sufficient to construct a fine mesh. By scanning the small wax figure from three different angles, surface textures and geometries can be clearly captured and easily converted into STL data.

Data Acquisition Using Inspection Software
The data captured by the 3D scanner can be quickly used to build models in the ZEISS Quality Suite inspection software. The detailed mesh and the resulting STL data support further use in 3D printing. This provides our partners with reliable and interesting replicas of the original cat-shaped wax figure.
