In November 2023, the Hunan University Embedded and Network Computing Key Laboratory of Hunan Province’s Zephyr RTOS on RK3568 solution has been merged into the official Zephyr community, making it the first domestic solution (the second globally) to support multi-core ARMv8 architecture processor board patch, enabling support for the Firefly ROC-RK3568-PC development board, as shown in the application example of multi-core booting of RK3568 below.
The Zephyr official reviewers and contributors have described this work as a fantastic achievement and very cool work (see below). They hope to experiment with the ZVM (Zephyr-based Virtual Machine) based on this work.
RK3568 is a quad-core 64-bit ARM Cortex-A55 processor SoC launched by Rockchip, based on the next-generation ARMv8.2 architecture, supporting various peripherals and interfaces, and applicable in scenarios such as smart homes, IoT, and industrial control. The laboratory has ported the Zephyr operating system to this development board and conducted performance testing and functional verification. Based on this patch, developers can more easily adapt boards with RK3566 and RK3568 as SoCs (both based on Cortex-A55 processors), further enhancing the usability of Zephyr. As a backbone of the domestic Zephyr project, the Embedded Laboratory will continue to leverage its academic advantages and technical strength, promoting the further development and application of Zephyr in China while giving back to the world based on technological achievements, contributing to the construction of an open, shared, and collaborative IoT operating system ecosystem.
