Recently, the Hangzhou Library’s Smart Technology Branch officially opened at the Shangtang Street Shanggu Future Talent Innovation Center in the Gongshu District. As the 30th themed branch of the Hangzhou Library, it is not only the city’s first professional library centered on “smart technology” but also a new cultural space that integrates popular science education, interactive experiences, and industrial innovation. On the opening day, it attracted many children and families to experience it, and the high-tech interactive exhibits amazed everyone present.

“Mom, look! That robot can do a somersault!” A little boy excitedly pointed at the Yushu robot on display. It is reported that this robot has just taken on the role of the library’s “librarian”. This “smart librarian” can not only perform handstands and run but also interact with the audience in real-time through voice and images. “It seems to really understand what I’m saying!” A little girl asked, “Can you sing?” The robot quickly responded and swayed its body to the rhythm, bringing bursts of laughter.

On-site, many parents patiently communicated with their children as they moved between the exhibition areas. “What kind of robot is this?” A curious child stopped at the tea-picking robot exhibit. “It is a tea-picking robot that can automatically identify tea leaves and pick them accurately, and it can work continuously for 24 hours,” a staff member explained. In addition to the tea-picking robot, there was also a quadruped robot equipped with 4D laser radar and a GPT large model, supporting AI voice interaction and performing high-difficulty actions like flips, primarily aimed at family companionship and educational scenarios. However, the most popular was undoubtedly the robot coffee machine. “Can it really make coffee?” a boy who looked like a middle school student asked curiously. “Yes, it is a fully automatic six-axis collaborative robot that can make a cup of high-quality coffee in just 45 seconds without human supervision. Would you like to try a cup?” As the staff gave the robot the command, a cup of coffee was ready. Many families could be seen enjoying the coffee made by the robot while discussing the wonders of artificial intelligence.

The second floor’s Innovation Circle Industrial Achievement Exhibition Area was also very popular, showcasing cutting-edge technology exhibits in fields such as life and health, intelligent equipment, bionic robots, artificial intelligence, big data, and rail transportation. Through immersive experiences and interactive demonstrations, both young and old audiences were captivated.

It is reported that the Hangzhou Library’s Smart Technology Branch not only provides over 4,000 themed books but also supports city-wide “inter-library borrowing and returning”. Citizens can borrow books here and return them at the Hangzhou Library, various branches, district and county libraries, 24-hour micro-libraries, and community service points, making it very convenient. In the future, it will also host innovation and entrepreneurship classes, project roadshows, and technology exchange meetings to continuously promote the deep integration of “culture + technology”.

“Bringing children here is not just about reading books, but also about experiencing technology and sparking interest. This intuitive experience is more vivid than textbooks,” a mother remarked. As Hangzhou Library Director Liu Dong said, “We hope to use this platform to help citizens, especially young people, truly understand and love technology.” This library is planting the seeds of innovation in Gongshu in the most vivid way.
