Many people ask: “Why is Mengya, as a non-mobility marksman, prioritized so highly in KPL? Why can it even be picked first?” Recently, in the 2020 KPL Autumn Tournament, Mengya achieved a pentakill!
In the match, you can see that Mengya can hit the opponent from the crystal to the fountain, which shows how dominant this hero is.
In fact, most people have a lot of misunderstandings about Mengya:
1. No mobility?
On the surface, it does seem like there is no mobility. Mengya has no mobility skills, only output! Output! Output! Many people think he is just a stand-and-fight hero, but that’s wrong. Mengya’s core skill 1 allows him to deal damage while moving. When there are many enemies, he can attack while retreating for cover. So while Mengya has no mobility, he can still output while moving, making him the marksman with the best survival ability among stand-and-fight heroes.
2. Insufficient output?
Mengya’s shots in the beginning may not deal much damage, but once the passive stacks up, it explodes. The output also has a slowing effect, allowing him to run faster than the enemy while dealing damage. Additionally, he can deal damage with penetration and AOE. A skilled Mengya can make the opponent a target regardless of how many enemies there are.
A skilled Mengya can push the opponents back to their fountain. Therefore, Mengya’s output is not insufficient; it just requires time, and the later it goes, the stronger the burst. In this match, Mengya stuck to multiple enemies to output, increasing his burst damage and eventually charging to the front…
The pentakill was achieved this way.
3. Countered by assassins?
As long as the operation is on point, Mengya can actually fight against assassins, with ranged harassment upfront and spray cover up close. When ambushed, he can maneuver like TS Jiu Shi…
This maneuver, which looks like going up and then suddenly turning left, successfully dodged the opponent’s ultimate and resulted in a counter-kill. To reach this level, one needs to train hard.
Mengya’s build
Build: Boots of Resistance, Infinity Blade, Star Crusher, Unfathomable Omen, Shadow Blade, Guardian’s Blessing
For the new season 21S, it is recommended to replace Star Crusher with Dawn, changing to: Boots of Resistance, Infinity Blade, Shadow Blade, Unfathomable Omen, Dawn, Guardian’s Blessing
Runes: Duality x3, Source of Disaster x7, Stealth x10, Eagle Eye x10
Skills: Sprint (must-have skill)
Conclusion
Although Mengya’s output is not as high as stand-and-fight marksmen and escape ability is not as good as mobility marksmen, he perfectly combines the advantages of both types, becoming the strongest composite hero! Since his launch, he has consistently ranked among the top three marksmen. Why wouldn’t he be worth a first pick?
