On the afternoon of April 21, 2025, applause echoed in the academic report hall of the Jianli Middle School conference center, where an extraordinary technology lecture was held. Professor Wang Chen, Vice Dean of the School of Intelligent Manufacturing at Hubei University of Automotive Technology, was invited to give a popular science lecture titled “When Generative AI Meets Robotics: Unlocking the Secrets of Future Automotive Intelligence”. The principal of Jianli Middle School, Qin Zhong, along with over a thousand teachers and students from the first year of high school, immersed themselves in this futuristic technological feast. The lecture was hosted by Zhang Jianting, the office director.

Professor Wang Chen first vividly explained the cutting-edge dynamics of the current technological revolution and the new trends in AI-enabled future technology development through popular annual search terms such as Nezha 2, DeepSeek, and humanoid robots, allowing students to experience the wonderful collision of generative AI and robotics up close. He showcased a video demonstration of the new model of the Yushu Go2 bipedal robot navigating various terrains, illustrating how generative AI empowers robots with “brains” and “creativity”, and how service robots equipped with generative AI can construct maps in real-time through cameras and autonomously plan travel paths while avoiding obstacles.

“What is generative AI? It is what we commonly refer to as generative artificial intelligence,” said Professor Wang Chen. “Generative artificial intelligence involves the construction, training, and tuning of generative AI models that integrate multimodal knowledge graphs and large models, exploring generative AI prompt engineering based on multi-source heterogeneous information. In simple terms, it is like a ‘digital magician’ that generates text, images, music, and even videos based on the input information.”

“Students, can you tell me which category generative AI currently belongs to?”

“Is AI’s ‘creativity’ true creation?”

“How do machine wolf packs operate in combat?”

During the event, Professor Wang Chen cleverly designed a Q&A session for interactive engagement with the students. He explained the birth, development, and history of generative AI using detailed data and rigorous analysis, and in easily understandable language, he clarified: “Smart AI learns deeply through perception, recognition, and judgment, while knowledgeable AI constructs intelligent large models through thinking, language, and reasoning. Generative AI acts like the ‘brain’ of a robot, enabling it to think and learn, while the robot’s body allows AI’s intelligence to ‘move’.”

How can we make robots smarter? Professor Wang Chen cited typical case studies, such as collaborative combat of machine wolf packs, optimized sorting of packages by JD.com, drone swarm performances in Saudi Arabia, and robot fire drills, vividly demonstrating the collective intelligence of machine clusters. The collaborative effect of machine clusters marks a leap from “automation” to “autonomy”, with collaborative division of labor far exceeding single technical fields.

Finally, Professor Wang Chen provided a detailed introduction to the development of Hubei University of Automotive Technology, focusing on the talent cultivation model of the School of Intelligent Manufacturing, empowering the future of the automotive industry with generative AI from design, manufacturing, generative management, quality inspection, operation and maintenance, to sales, enabling efficient and high-quality delivery through a high-end intelligent manufacturing system, reshaping the intelligent revolution of automotive manufacturing and the new boundaries of automotive intelligence, showcasing the charm of automotive intelligence and modern industry from multiple dimensions, unlocking the secrets of future automotive intelligence, and igniting the technological dreams in the hearts of students.
