In fact, looking back at when the 3008 was first produced in China, this model has many noteworthy “features” that correspond to its unique strategic position today.
The 3008 was launched in January 2013, and Dongfeng Peugeot also announced the three-year plan “Ascend Blue Plan”; the new 3008 launched at the Beijing Auto Show is the first model of the “Ascend Blue” brand’s next three-year plan.
The current 3008 was equipped with a 1.6 THP engine when it was launched three years ago, marking Dongfeng Peugeot’s first model with a turbocharged engine; the new 3008 will be the first model equipped with the ADAS system.
It can be seen that the 3008 has always been a model that Dongfeng Peugeot values greatly. In fact, the reason this model is qualified to carry such important strategic significance is due to its other special identity: it is the first SUV model launched by Dongfeng Peugeot in the Chinese market.
Currently, there are two opportunities in the trend of the Chinese automotive market: first, within the horizontal segmentation of the market, SUV products that have enjoyed years of consumer demand dividends will continue to be the most promising segment for growth. For the unique consumer perspectives of domestic consumers, the demand for personalized styling, maximized space, and a sense of safety have been best met by SUVs; second, in the context of new technological trends, the future of automotive intelligence with expected autonomous driving, advanced autonomous driving, and even driverless cars will become the mainstream of future automobiles, a trend that is global.
In other words, the 3008 is not only the SUV category with the greatest growth potential in China, but it is also attempting to seize the window of opportunity in automotive intelligence by equipping ADAS. For Dongfeng Peugeot, this model could determine whether this French automotive brand can reach the next level, thus making the new 3008 the first model in another three-year plan, which is quite reasonable given its critical position.
So, is the new 3008 capable of supporting such an important strategic mission? Ultimately, we need to return to the product itself and analyze it from its three core selling points.
Power System: 1.6 THP engine + 6-speed automatic transmission + engine start-stop system. This configuration can ensure a partial lead in today’s automotive market. The engine start-stop system speaks for itself, and it remains a plus; the 1.6 THP engine is still mainstream, balancing power and fuel economy, and enjoying policy dividends (half purchase tax, energy-saving subsidies); the 6-speed automatic transmission is also mainstream and balances performance and reliability well.
Intelligent Configuration: Currently, Dongfeng Peugeot is still in the early stages of ADAS development. The boundaries of technology cannot be forced, but analyzing the composition of the new 3008’s ADAS system, its four functions: front collision warning, 360-degree panoramic imaging, lane departure warning, and blind spot monitoring can meet users’ psychological expectations at the price of 200,000, providing more automated safety driving guarantees. Design: The new 3008 has refreshed the design of key features, such as the matrix grille, LED lion claw taillights, 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels, and aluminum alloy luggage racks. The new 3008’s sense of power is more pronounced compared to the current model, embodying the essence of an SUV, and the electric panoramic sunroof is a product of gradual upgrades. Another noteworthy design is the split tailgate (the lower tailgate can be used for resting while parked), which will gradually reveal its value as short-distance self-driving trips become more popular.

The new 3008 is also a safer choice for Dongfeng Peugeot, which aims to advance further.
