General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized that students should establish the ambition of “technological innovation and contributing to a strong nation” from a young age, courageously becoming young scientists now, and striving to become great scientists in the future, contributing to our country’s high-level technological self-reliance and strength.
In 2022, the General Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the General Office of the State Council issued the “Opinions on Further Strengthening the Popularization of Science and Technology in the New Era”; in 2023, the Ministry of Education and eighteen other departments jointly issued the “Opinions on Strengthening Science Education in Primary and Secondary Schools in the New Era”, clarifying the national-level scientific education work mechanism to comprehensively and systematically promote the implementation of scientific education; during the 2024 National Two Sessions, scientific education became a hot topic again.
Scientific education is education that lays the groundwork for the future, as it is an important foundation for enhancing national technological competitiveness, cultivating innovative talents, and improving the scientific literacy of the entire population. Strengthening scientific education is not only necessary but also important.
Changle Normal School Affiliated Primary School was established in 1905, with a history of 119 years. The school’s mission is “to compete and lead the locality”. The school has always attached great importance to scientific education and has a profound historical foundation in this regard. As early as 1955, alumni Chen Deshi’s small invention won the National Invention Award, and he attended a meeting in Beijing, receiving a warm reception from Premier Zhou Enlai and Song Qingling.
In the context of the new era, the affiliated primary school contemplates: the three major strategies for national development – “education, talent, and technology” – all point towards the builders and successors of the new era who possess innovative consciousness and practical abilities.
1. Clear goal positioning, how to ensure effectiveness?
2. Teacher professionalism is key, how to ensure standards?
The affiliated primary school, under the background of group school operation across three campuses, has a large number of vibrant modern teachers entering the school, merging with the experienced “old affiliated primary school” to form a powerful hardcore team. The “old affiliated primary school”, which is good at learning, always pays attention to the forefront of education, while the modern, forward-looking “new affiliated primary school” is ready to go. Thus, at the school’s call, a 16-member “Science and Innovation Teacher Team” was born.
【Special Thanks】
Thanks to all the teachers who have worked hard for this, they are the strongest support behind the affiliated primary school!
3. Curriculum focuses on growth, how to ensure implementation?
The school focuses on cultivating scientific thinking, identifying “key issues” in scientific teaching at the low, middle, and high stages to carry out teaching, enhancing the effectiveness of scientific thinking cultivation. Through four teaching strategies of “activating thinking with questions, presenting thinking with materials, deepening thinking with games, and enhancing thinking with discussions”, the development of students’ scientific thinking is promoted.
Future learning can occur in any social field. The teachers of the “Science and Innovation Team” break the limitations of space, developing a broader learning field that meets students’ developmental needs. How to solve the congestion problem at the school gate? How to reduce the discomfort caused by speed bumps? How to improve the water quality of Dongjiang River… From the perspective of children, turning students’ curiosity, concerns, and thoughts into scientific research questions, allowing children to engage in real learning in a more authentic environment.
From March 16 to 17, 2024, the highly anticipated Second Changle District Youth Artificial Intelligence Competition, hosted by the Changle District Science and Technology Association, Changle District Education Bureau, and Changle District Science and Technology Bureau, and organized by the Changle District Youth Artificial Intelligence Society and Changle Normal School Affiliated Primary School Education Group, was held at the Qinxian Campus of Changle Normal School Affiliated Primary School.
This competition attracted a total of 513 participants and 247 teams, with competition events including the Robomaster Ground and Air Coordination Competition, Rotor Racing Cross-Country Competition, Creative Robot Competition, Arduino Programming Challenge, Scratch Programming Challenge, and Rainforest Adventure Fun Competition. Each event tests the participants’ thoughts, awareness, innovation, and practical abilities in the field of artificial intelligence, preparing them to become rising stars in the digital age as we embrace the era of artificial intelligence.
Our school sent 65 students to compete, showcasing the unique talents of the affiliated primary school students during two days of intense competition, standing out among many participating teams with impressive results.
The list of winners is as follows
Event: Robomaster Youth Ground and Air Coordination Competition
Event: Rotor Racing Cross-Country Competition
Event: Arduino Programming Challenge
Event: Scratch Programming Challenge
Event: Rainforest Adventure Fun Competition
In this AI competition, our school’s participating teams competed in five events. Ten first prizes (accounting for 62.5% of the total number of first prizes in the district’s primary schools), sixteen second prizes, and thirty-eight third prizes were awarded, achieving a “bountiful harvest” of medals. Additionally, our students Chen Zhifei, Lin Chuyi, Shi Zhengchen, Chen Yuancheng, Chen Yunzhan, Wang Yuchen, and Chen Jiangming won the titles of champion in their respective projects; Li Kexin, Cheng Yuze, and Cheng Jingfeng won the titles of runner-up; Cheng Xiyuan, Chen Yiming, and Chen Junkun won the titles of third place.
This is just the beginning. Many questions were raised and pursued during this competition: What is innovation? What is science? The affiliated primary school wants to say that science might look like this: it is not a show, but a point of emergence for questions, a place of scientific excitement, and there is still much to be done.
Through this article, we would like to discuss the topic of “science” with everyone. What good opinions and suggestions do the vast alumni and parent friends of the affiliated primary school have? Let us crowdsource wisdom, do well in “science”, and enable our affiliated primary school students to better create infinite possibilities and welcome the future.
