Shanghai, March 10, 2017 – Telink Microelectronics is a developer of highly integrated low-power RF and mixed-signal system-on-chip solutions dedicated to Internet of Things (IoT) applications. Recently, it released the latest version of its Bluetooth Low Energy SDK for Apple HomeKit device development. Any developer holding an Apple HomeKit license can use Telink’s SDK and the single-chip solution with built-in security key authentication to develop products and accessories for the smart home market.

HomeKit enables Apple to configure, connect, and control IoT devices in smart home applications, such as smart locks, lighting, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems, and sensors.

Unlike other platforms, Apple HomeKit does not require a central gateway device. This ecosystem can revolve around existing iOS devices, utilizing the iPad as the hub for home control. HomeKit is a protocol that connects all devices in a home network, allowing them to communicate with each other. HomeKit devices are limited to operating within Bluetooth or WiFi networks and have strict encryption requirements to ensure a secure environment, which imposes specific processing capability requirements on the chips. Furthermore, with HomeKit, communication between products occurs locally without the need for cloud data transmission.

Like many other services, Apple places a high priority on the security of HomeKit, ensuring safety through end-to-end encryption between iOS devices and accessory products, making it one of the most secure smart home solutions on the market. Telink is one of the few companies that have integrated security hardware into low-power BLE chips. Telink’s Bluetooth Low Energy chips, such as the TLSR8267 and TLSR8269, have been designed with HomeKit requirements in mind from the outset.

Dr. Sheng Wenjun, CEO of Telink Microelectronics, stated: “Telink is a strong supporter of Apple HomeKit. We were among the first to release an SDK for smart home accessory manufacturers. Many users are already developing products based on our HomeKit-supported new chip solution, and we expect to see HomeKit devices based on Telink chips in the market this year.”

Telink is also considering combining this SDK with Telink’s patented BLE mesh technology, allowing users to establish a robust smart home solution that enables real-time interconnectivity between devices of different smart home standards. Telink’s BLE mesh solution can utilize the company’s proprietary network control technology to manage the online and offline status of multiple nodes. Additionally, this technology provides a mechanism for synchronized control in multi-hop or large mesh networks. It can also support Apple HomeKit without changing the hardware design.
