With the rapid development of emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things, big data, and artificial intelligence, the demand for industrial-grade storage continues to grow. As AI technology rapidly evolves, AI solutions are migrating to the edge, presenting new opportunities for the storage industry in the edge AI market. Etron Technology, which has a leading position in the global industrial control storage market, is further locking in on the edge AI market.
On March 12, Wu Xixi, General Manager of Etron Technology’s Global Embedded Flash Division, delivered a keynote speech titled “Architect Intelligence” at MemoryS 2025, sharing Etron’s strategic layout and latest achievements in industrial-grade storage and edge AI innovation, and discussing how to cope with the rapid development of AI and seize significant business opportunities.
AI Transformation: New Opportunities for the Storage Industry
Wu Xixi pointed out that AI is penetrating various industries at an unprecedented speed, from the cloud to the edge, and from consumer industries to industrial control and sector-specific industries. The transformation towards AI has become an irreversible trend for the future. Particularly in fields such as healthcare, transportation, and smart manufacturing, the application of AI not only enhances efficiency but also brings an unprecedented intelligent experience.
Wu Xixi noted that looking back at the trajectory of AI development, its evolution path from the cloud has progressed from Web 1.0 to Web 3.0 and then to deep learning. From the emergence of ChatGPT to the current rise of open-source models like Deepseek, we have witnessed fierce technological competition and observed that AI technology is gradually transitioning from the cloud to the edge. This process is first reflected in the enterprise sector, and this trend is ongoing.
He further explained that the open-sourcing of large language models has accelerated the implementation of AI edge computing. The rapid rise of DeepSeek has drawn attention to smaller models with lower costs, while the miniaturization of AI models further catalyzes the development of edge AI. With the implementation of Enterprise AI and Edge AI, as well as the establishment of small-scale AI datacenters, the market demand for high-capacity SSDs will grow rapidly, such as 128TB SSD products.
Wu Xixi believes that to protect confidential company information and data, all enterprises will deploy their own AI in the future, creating a significant new opportunity known as enterprise AI transformation. In response to the opportunities presented by enterprise AI transformation, Etron Technology has already launched relevant product lines, including SATA3 and PCIe5.0 SSD products specifically designed for AI.
Shaping the Future: Etron Technology’s Edge AI Strategy
As the demand for localized and privatized deployments grows, the development of edge AI accelerates. Etron Technology has been laying out its Edge AI strategy for over 10 years and has achieved significant results, demonstrating strong competitiveness.
In 2024, Etron Technology officially proposed the brand proposition “Architect Intelligence,” aiming to promote the practical application of AI technology in the industrial and enterprise sectors through the integration of software and hardware advantages. Under this framework, Etron Technology has integrated numerous product lines into nine categories of intelligent products.
Wu Xixi introduced that over the past 20 years, Etron Technology has developed different product lines at various times, including sensors, cameras, SSDs, memory, accelerator cards, as well as system integration software and AI management software.
It is reported that Etron Technology has launched an AI software development toolkit and scenario implementation solutions using Baidu’s PaddleX AI intelligent model, along with a series of high-performance products including CXL 2.0 memory, 16TB high-capacity SSDs, and PCIe 5.0 SSDs. They have independently developed the iVIT software development toolkit (SDK), which simplifies AI model development through its “No-code” feature; launched enterprise generative AI tools, and upgraded the iCAP cloud management platform to integrate AI model deployment and edge device management.
At the conference, Wu Xixi described Etron Technology’s edge AI strategy in an easy-to-understand manner as integrating each product line and stacking each program like “building blocks,” creating a one-stop Edge AI implementation solution that allows customers to quickly deploy.
Looking to the future, Wu Xixi stated that they will continue to focus on “Architect Intelligence” as the core strategy to promote the application of AI technology in global industries. Etron Technology believes that the next stage of Edge AI and generative AI is AGI, and they are continuously monitoring the technologies and products needed for AGI on Edge and are preparing accordingly.
In Wu Xixi’s view, this represents an opportunity for the next era. “If it can really be achieved, I believe the SSD industry will also thrive alongside it.”
