(Kuching, 4th) The Deputy Minister of the Sarawak Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development, Dato’ Majang Renggi, pointed out that as Sarawak actively promotes sustainable development and a green economy, the state government has invested heavily in several strategic infrastructure projects, raising higher demands for facility maintenance and management.
He emphasized that cities like Kuching and Miri are moving towards becoming smart cities, gradually introducing digital technology into urban services, which will further increase the demand for efficient facility management.
He stated that the construction of smart cities requires the latest technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and 5G networks, to ensure that advanced infrastructure can be properly maintained.
“As a state that values the digital economy, Sarawak supports the application of these technologies. I believe that through collaboration between the private sector and local universities, we can cultivate more local talents with expertise in smart facility management.”
Majang Renggi noted that through relevant training and collaboration, Sarawak can not only create more high-skilled job opportunities but also ensure that the state’s assets are managed by local talents according to Sarawak’s own model.
“This is not only an economic opportunity but also concerns sovereignty, ensuring that our assets are managed by Sarawakians themselves.”
He also mentioned that in line with Sarawak’s energy transition policy and hydrogen economy blueprint, sustainable facility management will become a key component. In the future, government buildings, commercial structures, and residential projects in the state will focus more on energy efficiency, high resilience, and environmentally friendly designs.
“Good facility management can ensure user comfort and safety while enhancing productivity and well-being.”
