Unmanned systems, especially drones and unmanned vehicles, are gradually becoming more prevalent in daily life. For instance, drones are widely used in fields such as power line inspection, pipeline monitoring, pollution control, and forest fire prevention. In the unmanned vehicle sector, applications like the much-discussed “萝卜快跑” (Radish Run) autonomous taxi, anti-terrorism robots, firefighting robots, and unmanned automated production lines are playing an increasingly important role in people’s lives.

With the increasing prevalence of these applications, the number of unmanned devices is bound to grow explosively. However, some urgent issues have been identified during their application, such as how to ensure smooth, clear, and uninterrupted video transmission when multiple unmanned devices are working together under limited communication bandwidth.

In scenarios requiring low latency, such as remotely controlling strike equipment on anti-terrorism robots, or how backend security personnel can quickly take over control of front-end vehicles in the event of sensor failure in unmanned vehicles, it is crucial to avoid serious safety incidents.

The aforementioned issues are critical challenges that need to be addressed for the large-scale and effective application of unmanned devices. In response to these industry pain points and the demand for domestic solutions, Huishi Optoelectronics has launched a low latency and low bandwidth video transmission solution based on the RK3588, with the following basic functionalities:

(1) Within a narrowband transceiver channel, for example, with an effective bandwidth of 0.5Mb/s to 2Mb/s, multiple video streams and interactive control can share a pair of transceiver channels. The channel supports data transparent transmission, allowing external systems to use this channel to transmit data in any format;

(2) The video bitrate can be adjusted in real-time, allowing for clear and smooth image transmission even at a low bandwidth of 500K. This enables unmanned devices to operate further and travel longer distances;

(3) Video relay forwarding can be achieved;

(4) Real-time video encoding based on H.265 can be implemented;

(5) Low latency control based on video streams can be realized. Using a standard 60fps camera, a low latency encoding and decoding of 15ms can be achieved, with an additional data link transmission delay of around 30ms, currently leading in the industry. It is highly versatile, allowing for more flexible use across various application scenarios;

(6) Support for simultaneous transmission of multiple SDI video streams at a low bandwidth of 500K (1080P 60FPS), completely resolving the “bandwidth dilemma”;

(7) Overall latency is approximately 60ms (including camera, encoding/decoding, and display, excluding transmission), enabling real-time control and real-time strikes.
