Rising Resource Prices Drive Significant Increases in Low-Capacity eMMC Prices, Potential for Price Inversion in Some Embedded Products

Recently, there have been reports in the market that some manufacturers have postponed their plans to discontinue DDR4 production. Although this has caused some impact on the trading side, leading to a downward adjustment in some high-priced DDR4 chips, there has not been a panic sell-off.Overall, as market enthusiasm gradually decreases, the consumer DDR4 market is generally becoming more rational. However, the short-term delivery pressure for LPDDR4X remains, and memory manufacturers continue to push for price increases in LPDDR4X products, although the increase is relatively moderate.

In the embedded sector, some manufacturers are supplying a certain quantity of low-capacity eMMC products to mainstream customers while also releasing some MLC NAND resources to downstream storage manufacturers. Prices have seen significant increases, and most storage manufacturers are following the resource price increases to adjust their corresponding low-capacity eMMC product prices. If the price of low-capacity MLC NAND continues to rise, a price inversion may occur between 8/16/32GB eMMC and 64GB eMMC.

Additionally, on the 12th, a joint statement from China and the U.S. announced a further 90-day extension of tariffs. Regarding chip tariffs, last week Trump publicly stated that, except for companies that build factories in the U.S. or clearly commit to building factories, the U.S. will impose a 100% tariff on imported semiconductor products. Manufacturers like Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron, which have (or are building) factories in the U.S., may qualify for exemptions. However, the final implementation of tariffs and their impact remain to be observed.

In terms of upstream resources, the price of DDR5 16Gb Major has slightly increased, while prices for other DDR5, DDR4 chips, and Flash Wafers remain unchanged.

Channel DDR4 memory modules experienced a brief pullback last week, but prices have gradually stabilized; DDR5 memory module substrate delivery times have been extended, but prices remain stable in the short term. This week, channel memory module and SSD prices are maintaining last week’s levels.

Since some manufacturers announced the discontinuation of DDR4 production in the second quarter, the industry has seen multiple price increases following resource price hikes. Although some manufacturers have recently indicated they will maintain a certain supply, this is mainly for long-term customers, and the supply of high-spec consumer DDR4 resources remains very limited. In the context of ongoing supply instability, some industry clients are considering adopting a downgrade strategy, using lower-spec resources for production.

In the short term, the delivery pressure on LPDDR4X finished products remains tight and is difficult to improve, leading storage manufacturers to generally engage in smaller transactions, pushing actual transaction prices to continue rising. Regarding eMMC, recently, the supply side has released a certain quantity of 8GB eMMC finished products to mainstream customers, which will help alleviate the supply shortage of corresponding low-capacity embedded products; at the same time, storage manufacturers are also gradually replenishing their low-capacity MLC resource inventory, but due to high procurement prices, under cost pressure, storage manufacturers are raising prices for some low-capacity eMMC products.
