The Kirin 980 and Apple A12 have already transitioned to the 7nm process technology, and Qualcomm has confirmed that the next generation flagship chip will be built on a 7nm process. However, the naming and detailed specifications of this chip remain undecided.
Recently, XDA Developers discovered the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8150 chip in the unreleased Android 9.0 Pie firmware for the Samsung Galaxy S9. Foreign media speculate that the Snapdragon 8150 is likely the official name for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 successor, rather than the rumored Snapdragon 855.
Recent evidence supports this speculation. According to foreign media reports, the Snapdragon 8150 has already passed certification by Bluetooth SIG (Bluetooth Special Interest Group), with the codename SM8150.

It is reported that the Snapdragon 8150 will be manufactured using a 7nm FinFET process, with TSMC as the foundry. Given that the first batch of 5G smartphones is expected to be released next year, many manufacturers are likely to pair it with the X50 5G modem.
Previously, the prototype of the Snapdragon 8150 scored 3697 points in single-core tests on Geekbench, and reached 10469 points in multi-core benchmarks. In comparison, the best scores for the Snapdragon 845 are approximately 2400 points for single-core and 8900 points for multi-core; the Kirin 980 scored 3390 for single-core and 10318 for multi-core. The Apple A12 can achieve 4800 points for single-core and 11100 points for multi-core.
Additionally, reports indicate that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8150 is the first flagship chip from Qualcomm to feature a dedicated NPU (Neural Processing Unit), significantly enhancing its AI computing capabilities and enabling faster machine learning.
Foreign media predict that Samsung’s next-generation flagship S10 series may be among the first devices to feature the Snapdragon 8150.
