1、South Korea Launches Humanoid Robot with Human-Level Control Capabilities
South Korean robotics giant WIRobotics has launched its first general-purpose humanoid robot, ALLEX, at the Robotics Innovation Center (RIH) of Korea University of Science and Technology. Designed to respond to stimuli like a human, it can handle multiple tasks with 15 degrees of freedom (DOF), enabling realistic movements and complex interactions. Even without tactical sensors, it can detect and respond to forces as small as 100 grams (gf). Additionally, ALLEX is equipped with a gravity compensation mechanism from the waist to the upper body, providing a fingertip force of 40 N. With this innovation, ALLEX can perform high-load tasks without excessive energy consumption or mechanical stress. ALLEX is also lightweight, with its robotic hand weighing about 700 grams and the shoulder-mounted component weighing around 5 kilograms, allowing it to lift over 3 kilograms with one hand, achieving a strength-to-weight ratio superior to many larger robots weighing over 20 kilograms. WIRobotics aims to develop ALLEX into a modular platform so users can deploy different components of the robot based on applications.

2、Harvard Researchers Invent New Soft Wearable Robotic Device

Researchers from the John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) collaborated with physician-scientists from Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School to upgrade their wearable robot, enabling it to respond to the precise movements of each user, thus providing more personalized assistance for daily tasks. This research was published in Nature Communications. The paper describes significant updates to the device’s software, which consists of a vest equipped with sensors, with a balloon connected below the vest’s arms that can inflate and deflate to provide mechanical assistance to weakened or impaired limbs. The researchers employed a machine learning model to track movements and pressure sensors to understand the actions the user is attempting, thereby offering personalized levels of assistance.

3、Evri Deploys First Robotic Delivery Dog

Parcel delivery company Evri is currently testing a robotic delivery dog named Milo in Yorkshire. This robotic dog will assist couriers in delivering packages over the next two weeks. The quadruped robot is programmed to climb up and down from delivery vans and has been trained using real-world data. It is also equipped with cameras and a laser mapping system, allowing it to safely navigate around pedestrians, cyclists, and wheeled trash bins. The robot was developed by Swiss AI company RIVR. CEO Marko Bjelonic stated, “This deployment marks an important milestone for the ‘last mile’ delivery in the UK. RIVR is also developing a robotic dog with arms that could eventually operate fully autonomously. The company’s ultimate goal is to enable robots to walk smoothly on sidewalks, open doors, deliver packages, and interact with people like human couriers.”

4、SNUH Successfully Completes Single-Port Robotic Kidney Transplant

Kidney transplantation requires precise matching of the renal artery, vein, and ureter within limited time and space. It is also crucial to prevent micro-bleeding immediately after blood flow restoration. Achieving this through a single-port procedure requires high-level surgical experience and standardized surgical protocols. Recently, Seoul National University Hospital (SNUH) successfully performed a single-port robotic living kidney transplant, providing a minimally invasive alternative to traditional surgery. The single-port robotic surgery only requires a small incision, with a 3-4 cm incision around the donor’s navel and a 6 cm incision in the recipient’s lower abdomen. This minimally invasive approach can significantly reduce pain and shorten recovery time.

5、NVIDIA’s First Humanoid Robot, Developed in Collaboration with Foxconn, Expected to Debut in November

According to Taiwan’s Economic Daily, Foxconn is preparing to produce humanoid robots and may launch them within a few months. Foxconn is an integral part of NVIDIA’s AI supply chain, responsible for mass production of cutting-edge AI servers such as Blackwell and Blackwell Ultra. As part of the NVIDIA team, Foxconn is also involved in this project. It is reported that NVIDIA will showcase its humanoid robot solutions, which have been improved and equipped with a legal master’s (LLM) and robotic brain, at Foxconn’s Technology Day scheduled for November.
