According to relevant data, the timeline for mass production of Micro LEDs is still unknown, but we do know that Mini LEDs used as backlight sources for LCD displays have been in mass production since the second half of 2018, mainly due to their low cost and easier application.
In addition to being used as backlights for LCD displays, Mini LEDs can also be used to support active matrix (AM) light-emitting displays. However, backlight applications are easier to implement, as they only require monochrome Mini LEDs, which simplifies the production process and reduces costs. Therefore, Mini LEDs can facilitate the integration of mass transfer technology, and their lower price makes them more acceptable to consumers.
As backlights for LCD displays, Mini LEDs offer high contrast, energy efficiency, and ultra-thin advantages, comparable to OLED, and can showcase unique performance advantages in LCD display applications. For example, Mini LEDs can be used in gaming devices to enhance the scene atmosphere and visual experience; automotive displays benefit from weather resistance and visibility under bright light and provide ultra-high resolution for televisions.
