MediaTek has been quite productive recently. In addition to the earlier launch of the new 5G chip brand “Dimensity”, which includes Dimensity 1000, Dimensity 1000L, Dimensity 800, and the G90 series processors for gaming smartphones introduced last summer, MediaTek has also released the G70 series and G80.
The MediaTek G70 series was released on January 15, featuring a 12nm FinFET process, with a CPU configuration of [email protected] + [email protected]. It is positioned as a 4G SoC, not supporting 5G, aimed at entry-level devices. The realme C3 has already been officially announced to debut in India on February 6.
Today, MediaTek has once again launched the new Helio G80 platform, also positioned as a 4G SoC, not supporting 5G, aimed at the mid-range market.
In terms of specifications, the MediaTek G80 uses a 12nm process, with a CPU configuration of [email protected] + [email protected], and a GPU of Arm Mali-G52 MC2 (950MHz). Compared to the previous G70, the main differences are a slightly higher frequency for the small cores and GPU, and it also does not provide a dedicated APU architecture.
Other specifications of the MediaTek G80 include support for LPDDR4x, up to 8GB of memory, eMMC 5.1 storage, built-in wake-up voice functionality, support for eMMC 5.1 storage, a maximum screen resolution of 2520*1080, a maximum refresh rate of 60Hz, support for multiple cameras, a maximum camera resolution of 48MP, and support for Bluetooth 5.0, among others.
As for the mass production timeline, reports indicate that smartphones equipped with the MediaTek G80 platform are expected to launch in India as early as this month. In addition, the MediaTek G70 will debut with the realme C3, while the MediaTek G90T debuted with the Redmi Note 8 Pro, and it is anticipated that the MediaTek G80 will also debut between realme and Redmi, with the mass production model priced around 999.
