During renovations, many people complain about the small kitchen space while the number of small appliances continues to grow, such as rice cookers, electric kettles, soy milk makers, air fryers, etc. When these small appliances are placed on the countertop, they not only appear cluttered but also occupy valuable workspace, making the kitchen look cramped.
Every time I cook, it feels like everything is piled around me, making it particularly inconvenient to operate.
So, how can we create a reasonable storage space for these small appliances while keeping the kitchen tidy and aesthetically pleasing? Below, I will share some storage tips based on kitchen design and storage methods.

1. Reasonably Plan Kitchen Space
01. Embedded Cabinet Design

In the kitchen design trends of 2025, embedded cabinets have become a favorite among many families. If the kitchen space allows, it is recommended to create a dedicated embedded cabinet. You can cleverly embed larger kitchen appliances such as ovens, microwaves, and rice cookers into it.
Generally, the cabinet dimensions should be based on the kitchen size, combined with the height of the cook for reasonable design.
For example, the upper cabinets can embed a steam oven, with a depth generally controlled around 60cm; the middle layer can be left empty for placing rice cookers and frying pans for easy access; the lower layer can accommodate dishwashers and sterilizers, with the full embedded installation depth typically between 58cm and 60cm, depending on the dishwasher’s size requirements, considering water inlet and drainage needs.
When designing embedded appliances, be sure to reserve enough sockets inside the cabinet, ideally 2-3 per layer, and also leave ventilation holes to ensure the safe use of electrical appliances.
02. Utilize Wall Space

The wall is actually an “invisible storage area” in the kitchen; utilizing wall space can greatly increase storage capacity.
For smaller, frequently used appliances, such as egg cookers and coffee makers, wall-mounted shelves can be installed in the kitchen.
The shelves can be multi-layered, arranged according to the size and usage frequency of the small appliances.
For instance, place the coffee maker on the bottom layer for easy access every morning; the egg cooker can go on the upper layer, which is not used as often but still needs to be accessible. When installing the shelves, ensure to choose ones with strong load-bearing capacity and install them securely to avoid falls that could cause danger.
03. Clever Use of Corner Space

The corner space in the kitchen is often wasted; however, with some clever design, it can become a treasure trove for storing small appliances.
Corner pull-out baskets can be installed; there are many pull-out baskets specifically designed for corners that can hold less frequently used small appliances, such as soy milk makers, juicers, and ice makers. When needed, simply pull out the basket to easily access the appliances, which is very convenient.

2. Choose Suitable Storage Tools
01. Drawer Storage Boxes
For some small, irregularly shaped appliances, ordinary cabinets may not be suitable for storage, leading to a cluttered appearance.
Drawer storage boxes can categorize these small appliances, for example, placing various small kitchen scales and timers in one box, and spare equipment for kitchen appliances in another.
This not only makes retrieval convenient but also keeps the interior of the cabinet looking very tidy when the drawers are closed.
02. Mobile Storage Racks
For small appliances that need to be moved frequently, such as chili grinders and garlic presses, mobile storage racks can be used. Mobile storage racks usually come with wheels, making it easy to move them around the kitchen.

3. Follow Storage Principles
01. Classify Storage by Usage Frequency

When storing small appliances, it is essential to follow the principle of classifying storage by usage frequency.
For small appliances that are used daily, such as rice cookers and electric kettles, they should be placed in the most accessible locations, such as near the countertop or in mid-height cabinets, so they can be reached easily without bending down or stretching up.
For appliances that are used less frequently, such as yogurt makers and juicers, they can be placed in higher or lower positions, such as the upper shelves of wall cabinets or the lower shelves of base cabinets, as they are not used often and will not affect daily operations; they can be retrieved when needed.
02. Reserve Operating Space

When storing small appliances, consider the operating space during use. For example, when placing an electric kettle, ensure there is enough space for it to sit steadily and for easy plugging and unplugging.
It is important not to focus solely on storage while neglecting usability; otherwise, even if everything is neatly stored, inconvenience in use will affect the overall living experience.
03. Pay Attention to Safety

When storing small appliances, safety issues must be prioritized. First, keep electrical appliances away from water sources to avoid dangers such as short circuits caused by water splashes. Secondly, ensure that storage tools are installed securely and that appliances are placed stably to prevent falls that could cause injury.
Additionally, for appliances that generate high temperatures, such as ovens and air fryers, consider heat dissipation when storing them; there should be no flammable materials nearby, and they should be placed and used according to the appliance’s instructions.
Storing small kitchen appliances requires a comprehensive consideration of kitchen design, selection of storage tools, and adherence to storage principles. By reasonably planning kitchen space, choosing suitable storage tools, and following correct storage principles, the challenges of storing small kitchen appliances can be easily resolved, making the kitchen tidy and beautiful while also improving cooking efficiency and mood.
