Life Status of Four Graduates from Hubei University of Technology's Computer Science Program After Six Years

With the rapid development of information technology and the global trend of digital transformation, the demand for computer science professionals has surged across various industries. Companies require experts in software development, data analysis, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing to enhance efficiency and innovate products and services.

Graduates in computer science can find employment in multiple fields such as software development, cybersecurity, data analysis, artificial intelligence, and game development, and they can even easily switch careers or start their own businesses. This provides individuals with a wide range of career choices and development opportunities.

For this reason, the Computer Science and Technology program has always been a popular major, with a large number of students choosing to apply for it each year.

So, what is the real employment and salary situation for graduates of the Computer Science and Technology program from ordinary universities in recent years? Today, let’s take a look together.

This article is shared by a contributor who graduated in 2018 from Hubei University of Technology, a regular university in Hubei, majoring in Computer Science and Technology. Today, we will listen to the stories of the four roommates.

Roommate A, from Xiangyang, Hubei, comes from a working-class family. He is exceptionally intelligent, with high emotional and intellectual quotients, and studies very diligently. He joined a student club in his freshman year to practice programming and became very skilled. He won several awards in competitions during college. In his junior year, he prepared for the graduate entrance exam and successfully enrolled in a 985 university in Nanjing. After obtaining his master’s degree, he went to work in a major internet company in Hangzhou, earning around 350,000 CNY annually. The work pressure and intensity are quite high, and he plans to work for a few years to earn more money before considering returning to Wuhan for development.

Roommate B, from Ningbo, Zhejiang, comes from a working-class family. His father works in a state-owned enterprise, and his mother is a teacher, so the family is relatively well-off. He was raised with strict discipline, but once he got to college, he completely let loose, often skipping classes and playing games alone in the dormitory, failing several subjects in exams. His practical skills are average, and his coding ability is relatively weak. Upon graduation, he secured a job in operations at a private company in Hangzhou through campus recruitment, earning around 80,000-120,000 CNY annually. With his parents’ support, he bought a house in Hangzhou and got engaged to his girlfriend of two years last year. His life is gradually getting on track, and he is considering starting a family.

Roommate C, from Dezhou, Shandong, comes from an ordinary rural family. He is a typical Shandong man, very generous, and every winter and summer vacation, he brings us local specialties like Dezhou braised chicken. He enjoys drinking and often drinks a little in the dormitory during his free time, with a good tolerance for alcohol. His academic performance in college was average, but he had decent programming skills. Upon graduation, he secured a job in a state-owned enterprise in the financial sector in Shanghai through campus recruitment, earning around 250,000 CNY annually. The work is easy and stable, but the salary is relatively low, making it difficult for him to consider buying a house in Shanghai. He is recently contemplating whether to return to his hometown for development.

Finally, there is me (the contributor), from Yueyang, Hunan, coming from an ordinary rural family, and I am a typical left-behind child in the countryside, with my parents working in Guangdong for many years. When filling out college applications after the college entrance examination, I chose the popular Computer Science and Technology major based on a relative’s suggestion. During college, I followed the routine without anything particularly remarkable. In my junior year, I prepared for the graduate entrance exam and successfully enrolled in a 211 university in Anhui. After obtaining my master’s degree, I secured a technical position at a bank in Changsha through campus recruitment, earning around 150,000 CNY annually.

Contributor’s Insight: Although the computer science major requires learning programming languages, algorithm logic, and more, these skills can mostly be mastered through systematic study. Compared to some majors that require specific backgrounds or connections, the computer science major emphasizes the cultivation of personal skills and abilities. One characteristic of the computer science major is its relative fairness; it does not heavily rely on family background or social connections. As long as you are willing to invest time and effort into learning, you have the opportunity to stand out in this field, which is a chance for many students from ordinary families to change their fate.
