Previously, I wrote about the Sony Z5P phone from 2015, which was not only Sony’s first 4K screen phone but also arguably the first 4K screen phone in the Android industry. However, from a performance perspective, the Snapdragon 810 processor was quite inadequate, so now it’s time for today’s “main character” to make an appearance.
It is the Sony Xperia XZ Premium (referred to as “Sony XZP”), a flagship phone released in 2017, which also features a proud 5.5-inch 4K IPS display (an LCD), with a resolution of 3840×2160 and support for HDR display technology, achieving an astonishing PPI of 806. Unfortunately, the 3230mAh battery still disappoints.
Its mid-frame design is more rounded, reminiscent of the Nokia Lumia, with a wide power button on the right side that feels quite satisfying to use.The key point is that the configuration is decent, equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, standard memory of 4GB, which can still serve as a backup phone even today, without overheating like the previous generation Z5P. Additionally, its Hong Kong version features a dual SIM design, but most users are playing with the Japanese version, which is a single SIM version.
The most classic version is the mirror silver version, whose back can serve as a “makeup mirror”. This design has almost become extinct; the Xiaomi 6’s bright silver exploration version released in the same year has a similar mirror effect, but the cost difference is significant.
Most importantly, the Sony XZP features an “extremely advanced” 3.5mm headphone jack at the top, allowing you to connect wired headphones while listening to music. The bottom has upgraded to a Type-C charging port, no longer like the previous generation Z5P with a MicroUSB interface, eliminating the need to prepare a separate charging cable, which is compatible with current Android phones.
As for the second-hand price, I casually checked on Xianyu, and the Japanese version 4G+32G low configuration version can be obtained for 180 yuan, still in 95% new condition with a streamlined system, good battery status, and airtightness (IP68 water resistance). The 4G+64G high configuration version can be obtained for 200 yuan, which is also fine as a backup phone.Indeed, if choosing between the Sony Z5P and XZP, the latter has a “crushing” advantage. Both have 4K screens, but the Snapdragon 835 performs much better, and the price difference is minimal, which is quite interesting.
