Is a New Interface Just a New Development Board? — Orange Pi 5 Ultra
Recently, Orange Pi launched their new development board.Orange Pi 5 Ultra
I took a quick look, and I think this development board can be said to be the culmination of Orange Pi’s RK3588 development boards.Let’s take a closer look at this development board.It uses the RK3588 SoC.4 x Cortex-A76 @2.4GHz + 4 x Cortex-A55 @1.8GHz CPU.ARM Mali-G610 GPU.With a 6TOPS NPU.Memory options are 4GB/8GB/16GB LPDDR5.Onboard AP6611 Wi-Fi module, supporting Wi-Fi 6E + BT/BLE 5.3.Comes with 16MB QSPI Nor Flash.
The interfaces are also very complete.Includes a 2.5G Ethernet port based on RTL8125BG.One HDMI 2.1 output, supporting eARC.One HDMI 2.0 input.
Has a eMMC module interface, and below the interface, there’s also an option to solder eMMC chips. Two USB 3.0 ports and two USB 2.0 ports.
The only downside is that the Type-C power interface is still 5V, not supporting PD, and the official recommends a power supply of at least 5V 5A, consistent with Raspberry Pi 5.
From the interface perspective, the only difference is that it changed from two HDMI 2.1 ports to one HDMI 2.1 port and one HDMI 2.0 port.
Yes, that seems to be the only difference.Of course, Orange Pi probably feels that just changing an interface to release a new model seems a bit excessive. Thus, the price of Orange Pi 5 Ultra is only 5 yuan and 6 yuan more than the previous Orange Pi 5 Max.The previous Orange Pi 5 Max 8GB sold for 719, and 16GB for 919.As for the Orange Pi 5 Ultra:8GB 72416GB 925Including shipping fees.
As for whether you need it, that depends on whether you need that HDMI 2.0 input interface, a very simple choice.I think changing to HDMI input indeed increases the playability. However, the naming of Orange Pi 5 Ultra is a bit problematic, raising my expectations too high, only to find it was just a change of interface.Perhaps Orange Pi 5 Ultra is the complete form that Orange Pi wants to achieve.Equivalent to a modified version.
Nevertheless, the Orange Pi 5 Ultra is still worth purchasing, as there are not many companies that can offer the RK3588 at this price point.Just a bit disappointing, as I was hoping for something new.Development board selection website, welcome to visit.
