In-Depth Discussion on the Future Development of the RISC-V Ecosystem from Technology to Industry

On August 8-9, 2025, the first session of the Qizhi Conference was successfully held in Huairou, Beijing, with the theme “Future Development of the RISC-V Ecosystem.” The conference chair was Researcher Bao Yungang from the Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Fourteen senior experts from various research institutes and enterprises participated in the exchange activities. The discussions mainly revolved around five core issues, including the core elements of RISC-V ecosystem development, major challenges, new scenario exploration, high-performance processors, and the solutions for basic software in ecosystem construction.

During the conference, the following important consensus points were reached:

1. The RISC-V ecosystem construction should be divided into segments: an ecosystem focused on developers, enterprises, and research institutions; a hardware ecosystem centered on chips, development boards, and complete machines; a software ecosystem based on instruction set architecture, systems and toolchains, key libraries and core architectures, system integration, and application implementation solutions; and an industrial ecosystem that reflects value through commercial applications.

2. The main issues currently faced by each sub-ecosystem were clarified, with core problems including rigid organizational forms, limitations in chip processes, insufficient capabilities of high-performance processors, a weak software ecosystem, and the absence of killer market applications.

3. The priorities for ecosystem construction were established, emphasizing application-led development to drive the coordinated growth of software and hardware, gradually improving the industry.

4. Increased efforts in talent cultivation in the RISC-V field are necessary, with a long-term perspective on ecosystem construction and development.

CCF Qizhi Conference – Inspiring Wisdom, Unleashing Potential, Supporting Industrial Development

This Qizhi Conference effectively integrated insights from technical personnel, industry professionals, and investors in its personnel arrangement and topic setting, bridging the gap from technology development to commercial realization, guiding discussions on how to establish a broader RISC-V social ecosystem. This was a very pragmatic exchange activity, with everyone contemplating how to connect technology with industry, industry with ecology, and expand the scale of the ecosystem. The discussions featured both the passion and optimism of entrepreneurs and the thoughtful reflections of seasoned business leaders; they could discuss ideals from a technical perspective while also facing all the real difficulties candidly. Experts from various fields participating in the event expressed that the exchanges were frank and in-depth, and they appreciated the relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, gaining a lot from it.

The Qizhi Conference was originally established by CCF in 2016 with the aim of inspiring new ideas, encouraging members with new thoughts to gather in one place, freely discuss, and delve into new perspectives on cutting-edge and interdisciplinary issues, providing new ideas for the future development and application of computing technology, and building a bridge for the connection between technology and industry, with a greater emphasis on ensuring that technological development serves industrial applications. In the future, CCF will continue to use the Qizhi Conference format to inspire creativity and promote progress.
