1. What is OSMC?
OSMC is the official recommended media system for Raspberry Pi, an open-source operating system, an upgraded version of Openelec, and also based on the open-source Kodi project. By using OSMC, you can transform your Raspberry Pi into a fully functional home theater system, built on Linux, capable of creating media websites on both local networks and the internet, while also being based on the Kodi project.
2. Installing the OSMC System
First, download the image, respond with “OSMC” in the public account to get the image download link. Unzip the downloaded image file and use the win32diskimager tool (if you are not familiar with this tool, please refer to this article on how to install the Raspberry Pi system) to write the image to the SD card, then power on the Raspberry Pi.
After powering on, the OSMC system installation begins. Connect the Raspberry Pi to a monitor, if you encounter a black screen issue, remember to modify the config.txt configuration file, see my article on solutions for Raspberry Pi not displaying on the monitor, booting will automatically start the installation of OSMC (Kodi), this process is automatic and takes about 20 minutes. After the installation is complete, OSMC will automatically start. The installation process will display the following prompts:
After the installation is complete, set up OSMC. When setting up, do not select Chinese language first, otherwise, it may cause garbled text, and you won’t be able to switch back! First, set the system’s time zone to Asia-HongKong, network, hostname, and other information, then save.
3. Setting Chinese Language
To configure Chinese in OSMC, two steps are required:
a. Find system–>settings–>appearance–>skin, change the fonts to Arial based;
b. Find international under skin, change the language to Chinese;
This will switch the system language to Simplified Chinese.
