EtherCAT G Technology Wins the 'CMCD 2019 Annual New Era Bus Technology Innovation Award'

In December 2019, the “2020 Smart Manufacturing & China Motion Control / Direct Drive Industry Development Summit Forum and Award Ceremony” hosted by China Transmission Network and the China Motion Control Industry Alliance was held in Ningbo, Zhejiang. EtherCAT G technology, with its unparalleled innovative advantages, has broken through the traditional motion control application field, receiving widespread attention and recognition in the industry, and successfully won the “CMCD 2019 Annual New Era Bus Technology Innovation Award”.

EtherCAT technology has always enjoyed a reputation in the motion control field due to its high performance, high flexibility, low cost, and ease of implementation. This technology was developed by Beckhoff Automation in Germany and was introduced to the market in 2003, becoming an international standard in 2007. Its unique operating mode makes it the engineer’s best choice. In April 2018, Beckhoff launched EtherCAT G and EtherCAT G10, which enhanced the performance of EtherCAT to gigabit and 10-gigabit levels, and recommended this technology to the EtherCAT Technology Association. In September 2019, after review by the ETG Technical Committee, ETG accepted EtherCAT G and incorporated it as an extension of the EtherCAT technology protocol.

EtherCAT is already the fastest industrial Ethernet fieldbus, and the EtherCAT G technology is particularly suitable for applications with large data volumes, such as in the fields of machine vision, high-end measurement and testing technology, or more complex and large-scale motion control applications. As a core EtherCAT technology supplement, EtherCAT G adopts the same transmission mechanism, is fully compatible with EtherCAT, and possesses all the characteristics of EtherCAT technology. Therefore, EtherCAT G is not a new version of EtherCAT technology, but an extension of EtherCAT.

Ms. Fan Bin, the representative of the EtherCAT Technology Association in China, attended the forum and accepted this honor. Ms. Fan stated: “EtherCAT technology has become the mainstream communication protocol and industry standard in the field of motion control. As an extension of the standard EtherCAT technology, EtherCAT G is fully compatible with EtherCAT and breaks through the traditional concept of motion control applications, making it suitable for large data volumes and more complex applications. The introduction of this technology by ETG will further expand the capabilities of EtherCAT technology, matching the new demands of domestic manufacturing upgrades and preparing adequately for future needs.”
