During the May Day holiday, a friend borrowed my car for a few days, and I accidentally left a little gadget in the car.
It was left in a corner of my car.
I checked it out, and this thing is calledM0, a portable speaker from the well-known audio manufacturer Edifier, priced at less than70 yuan. There are many people selling it at the seafood market, but most prices are around40 yuan or more, excluding shipping.
It’s not something particularly valuable.
The EdifierM0comes in four colors: mint green, black-orange, gray-green, and white-red. The one my friend left in my car is the gray-green version, which actually consists of black, gray, and green colors. Black is mainly used for the body and buttons, gray is used for the front mesh, and green is used for the power button and strap railing.
Honestly, I think this design looks quite nice.
Using this speaker is very simple; just long-press the power button to turn it on/off. There are prompt sounds when turning it on/off. Normally, the LED light in the upper right corner of the front should light up after powering on, but my friend’s unit seems to be broken as the light does not turn on. After powering on, my phone can search for the speaker via Bluetooth, and it is namedEDIFIER M0. However, since my phone is not the one originally connected to it, it fails to pair directly. I need to press the volume up and down buttons simultaneously for a few seconds to enter pairing mode to connect. This speaker only supports media audio playback and cannot be used for phone calls like a walkie-talkie, which is a downside.
Not supporting calls is a bit of a pity.
The EdifierM0 has an astonishingly loud volume. I only turned the volume up to about60%, and it can completely cover a living room of about30 square meters. When the volume is maxed out, although I can’t guarantee that the sound is clear throughout the entire house (over100 square meters), the sound can be heard everywhere. This volume is much louder than the small Xiaomi touch screen speaker I shared before (link to the Xiaomi article), and the M0 is only slightly larger than a pair of true wireless earbuds, which is quite ridiculous.
Its size is not much larger than a pair of true wireless earbuds.
The M0’s volume is impressive, and its sound quality is not rough. Although this speaker is inexpensive, it can still connect to Edifier’s official management softwareEdifier Connect. Once connected to the management software, the speaker can choose from three modes: music, gaming, and movie.
The official software provides three tuning options.
The default mode is“Music,” which emphasizes the midrange, has slightly muted and loose highs, and low frequencies that are small in strength but slightly large in volume. It allows for clear vocals while also providing a good atmosphere, making it a decent choice for listening to pop music;
Listening to music is quite good.
When using“Gaming” mode, the three frequencies become more balanced, with both high and low frequencies tightening up a bit, and the midrange slightly receding, creating a good sense of space and sound positioning. Additionally, in this mode, the sound delay is reduced, making it more responsive;
There is basically no delay when gaming.
Finally, there is“Movie” mode, where the performance of high and low frequencies falls between the “Music” and “Gaming” modes, having a bit of texture and volume. The midrange is similar to the “Gaming” mode, slightly receding. Listening to music in this mode may feel like the highs and lows are a bit exaggerated, but it is quite comfortable for watching movies, though it is only mono.
Watching movies feels good, but it’s not stereo.
Edifier has packed a500 mAh battery into the small body of theM0. The official claim is that it can play continuously for8 hours on a full charge (at80% volume). I charged it fully, then connected it to my phone at 10 AM and tried various uses, playing music (at 50% volume) while writing this article, and by 4 PM, after about7 hours of continuous use, the speaker did not indicate low battery, which is impressive. The M0 uses a type C interface for charging, and with a regular10w charger, it can be fully charged from low battery in about 30 minutes. The M0 can be used normally while charging, so you can take a power bank with you and play music indefinitely.
New binding playstyle.
I saw in the official store that this speaker has a strap available, indicating its positioning as a portable speaker. Its compact size and weight of around70 grams indeed make it portable.
Lightweight.
However, I personally feel that this positioning is not quite suitable. Although it has a loud volume, it is still not sufficient for outdoor use. I personally hope that the official can provide a pairing function for theM0, so that buying two to place beside a tablet as small speakers would enhance the sound performance of the tablet, making it more comfortable.
It would be great if it could pair.
In summary, the EdifierM0 is small enough, loud enough, and has decent sound quality. It is a value-for-money portable Bluetooth speaker product. Friends in need of a portable speaker can consider purchasing it; it’s quite good.
