Congratulations! Our Bionic Foot Robot Team Achieves Outstanding Results at the National College Student Robot Competition

Recently, the 24th National College Student Robot Competition ROBOCON concluded at the Jiangyin campus of Nanjing University of Science and Technology. This year’s competition attracted over 3,000 students from 76 universities across the country, featuring three main events: robot basketball, bionic foot challenges, and robot volleyball. Our university’s Robocon bionic foot robot team, led by the School of Communication and Information Engineering in collaboration with the School of Mechanical Engineering, performed excellently in their first competition, winning three national second prizes and ranking 16th in the bionic foot robot racing event, marking a significant breakthrough for our school in this competition.

The team consists of ten students from both colleges: Liu Xiaohai, Li Yunhao, Lou Nianxin, Hou Jiawei, Wang Cheng’en, Wang Zihan, Yu Chenhao, Liu Jizun, Xiong Xiao, and Wen Zhiwei. Since the competition topic was announced last September, the team members have undergone ten months of intensive preparation, completing the entire process from autonomous robot design, component processing to system debugging. Through repeated optimization and practice, they ultimately performed stably in the competition and achieved excellent results.

The bionic foot challenge is known for its complex mechanical structure and high precision control requirements, focusing on assessing the robot’s mobility under various terrain conditions. In a competitive environment filled with strong teams, our university, as a first-time participant, relied on its self-developed robot to perform stably in three segments: racing, obstacle navigation, and cross-country, winning three national second prizes. This achievement fully reflects our university’s educational practice results in the field of robotics and is a vivid practice of the school’s philosophy of “promoting learning and innovation through competition.” The school always regards academic competitions as an important platform for cultivating students’ innovation and practical abilities, providing resource support and professional guidance to fully support students’ technological innovation activities.

It is reported that the National College Student Robot Competition ROBOCON began in 2002 and is an important event organized by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, with several professional teaching guidance committees from the Ministry of Education assisting. It has been included in the China Higher Education Association’s “National College Student Competition Ranking List.” As one of the most technically challenging and influential robot competitions in the country, this event emphasizes assessing students’ ability to integrate and apply knowledge from multiple disciplines, including mechanics, electronics, control, and computer science, as well as their teamwork and project management skills. Over the past 24 years, the competition has attracted more than 200 universities and over 30,000 college students nationwide.
