The YMTC eMMC EC150 is a next-generation eMMC 5.1 embedded storage product built on Yangtze Memory’s 3D NAND architecture, Xtacking® 3.0. It supports automatic background operations and energy-saving features, reducing device latency and power consumption. After undergoing 1000 hours of HTOL testing (equivalent to 10 years of aging), it demonstrates stability and durability, significantly enhancing device lifespan. Available in 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB capacities, it provides high-performance, large-capacity storage solutions for mobile terminals, tablets, smart TVs, and other smart AIoT devices.

Test Preparation

The development board used for this test is the AtomPi-CA1 card computer from ZhenDian YuanZi, based on the RK3568 platform. The board provides a rich set of peripheral interfaces and multimedia functions, including OTG, HDMI, USB Type-A, and Ethernet ports, facilitating subsequent image flashing and testing.

The hard drive tested is the eMMC EC150 from YMTC Yangtze Memory, which requires removing the original eMMC chip from the AtomPi-CA1 card computer and soldering the EC150 back on. The original development board came pre-installed with the Debian system, and after soldering the new eMMC chip, the official tools must be used to flash the image again.

Connect the development board with the soldered eMMC EC150 to a PC via the OTG interface and install the drivers.

After installing the drivers, the adb debugging tool platform-tools must also be installed and the environment variables configured for subsequent testing of the Android 11 system.

In an empty disk state, switch the development board to MASKROM mode, then use Rockchip development tools to import the prepared image.

After flashing the native Android 11 image, the system settings show that the development board is recognized as a “tablet computer,” and model and version information can also be seen.

Using the command line tool on the PC, the adb command is used to install the Androbench testing software on the Android 11 system.

Using AndroBench with default settings, the actual sequential read speed is 65.12MB/s, sequential write speed is 110.43MB/s, 4K random read is 8502.32 IOPS, and 4K random write is 2455.84 IOPS, overall meeting eMMC performance standards. In the SQLite test, insert, update, and delete operations reached 457.32 QPS, 525.96 QPS, and 646.38 QPS respectively.

Subsequently, more than a dozen popular applications were installed on the flashed Android 11 system, all of which opened and operated normally without compatibility issues.

Additionally, it was tested that using an online video player could smoothly play 4K videos, indicating that the overall performance of the YMTC eMMC EC150 is sufficient to support the high-speed reading requirements of video streaming.

Moreover, it was tested that the external mobile solid-state drive inserted was recognized, allowing for bidirectional video and file transfer with the local hard drive.

Ubuntu 20.04

Before testing the compatibility and performance of the Ubuntu system, the development board must be switched to MASKROM/LOADER mode, and the prepared Ubuntu 20.04 image must be imported using Rockchip development tools.

After flashing the Ubuntu 20.04 LTS image, the system settings show the model, version, and other information.

In the Ubuntu system, the dd command was used to test the read and write performance of the storage device, achieving a sequential write speed of 135MB/s and a sequential read speed of 172MB/s, showing good performance. For 4K small files, the random write speed was 23.7 MB/s, and the random read speed was 17.2 MB/s.

Additionally, it was tested that the external mobile solid-state drive (NTFS format) was recognized in Ubuntu 20.04, allowing for bidirectional video and file transfer with the local hard drive.
