China’s Intelligent Railway Robots Attract Global Attention: ‘China is Living in 2035’

On August 13 local time, foreign media released a video of a Chinese intelligent robot repairing railway tracks, captioned: “China is living in 2035.”

The robot in the video can detect loose railway bolts and easily tighten them.

In fact, China’s achievements in the railway sector go far beyond this.

According to information released by official media, China has built the world’s largest and most modernized high-speed railway network, known as the “Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal” system, with the richest operational scenarios.

As of the end of last year, China’s high-speed rail operating mileage reached 48,000 kilometers, accounting for over 70% of the world’s total high-speed rail mileage.

97% of cities with a population of over 500,000 are included in the high-speed rail network, achieving commercial operations at a speed of 350 kilometers per hour on 17 high-speed rail lines, including the Beijing-Shanghai and Beijing-Guangzhou lines, totaling approximately 8,100 kilometers.

Additionally, in 2024, the national railway is expected to complete fixed asset investments of 850.6 billion yuan, with new lines totaling 3,113 kilometers, of which 2,457 kilometers are high-speed rail.

At the same time, China has also built the world’s largest ticketing system—”Railway 12306,” which has registered users reaching 720 million, with a single-day maximum ticket sales exceeding 26 million tickets.

Moreover, after years of research, China has established a complete high-speed rail technology system that covers the entire process chain, including train design, engineering construction, train control, traction power supply, and operation management.

Furthermore, China has also led the formulation of all 13 system-level international standards in the high-speed rail field set by the International Union of Railways (UIC).

These achievements signify that China not only possesses advanced technology leading the world in the high-speed rail sector but also holds international discourse power in standard-setting.
