Analysis of Automotive Intelligent Driving ADAS System (02): Classification of Intelligent Driving Assistance Technologies

Classification of Intelligent Driving Assistance TechnologiesOn August 20, 2021, the GB/T 40429—2021 “Classification of Automotive Driving Automation” recommended national standard proposed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee for Automotive Standardization was approved and published by the State Administration for Market Regulation and the National Standardization Administration (National Standard Announcement No. 11 of 2021), and it came into effect on March 1, 2022.Among the six levels of automotive driving automation, levels L0 to L2 are classified as driving assistance, where the system assists humans in performing dynamic driving tasks, with the driver remaining the primary operator; levels L3 to L5 are classified as automated driving, where the system replaces humans in performing dynamic driving tasks under designed operating conditions, with the system being the primary operator when the function is activated.Analysis of Automotive Intelligent Driving ADAS System (02): Classification of Intelligent Driving Assistance TechnologiesL0 Level Driving Automation(Emergency Assistance) systems cannot continuously perform vehicle lateral or longitudinal motion control in dynamic driving tasks but are capable of continuously detecting and responding to certain objectives and events during dynamic driving tasks.L1 Level Driving Automation(Partial Driver Assistance) systems continuously perform vehicle lateral or longitudinal motion control in dynamic driving tasks under their designed operating conditions and are capable of detecting and responding to certain objectives and events that correspond to the executed vehicle lateral or longitudinal motion control.L2 Level Driving Automation(Combined Driver Assistance) systems continuously perform vehicle lateral and longitudinal motion control in dynamic driving tasks under their designed operating conditions and are capable of detecting and responding to certain objectives and events that correspond to the executed vehicle lateral and longitudinal motion control.L3 Level Driving Automation(Conditionally Automated Driving) systems continuously perform all dynamic driving tasks under their designed operating conditions.L4 Level Driving Automation(Highly Automated Driving) systems continuously perform all dynamic driving tasks under their designed operating conditions and automatically execute minimum risk strategies.L5 Level Driving Automation(Fully Automated Driving) systems continuously perform all dynamic driving tasks under any drivable conditions and automatically execute minimum risk strategies.
