Do you still remember that the Geely Galaxy is positioned as a mid-to-high-end new energy vehicle series within Geely Auto’s product matrix? However, I have always felt that the previous Galaxy L6 and L7 models were not high-end enough in terms of body specifications, pricing, or configurations.
It wasn’t until October 30 that Geely Galaxy’s first mid-size sedan, the Galaxy E8, was officially launched, marking the arrival of its truly high-end model.
To be honest, before the official unveiling of Geely Galaxy’s first model, the Galaxy L7, I instinctively thought that the mid-to-high-end positioning of the Galaxy series meant that Geely Auto Group’s renowned SEA architecture was finally being applied to the Geely brand.
Disappointingly, the Galaxy L7 and L6, which were launched in May and September of this year, respectively, did not originate from the SEA architecture. This is one of the main reasons why I have always felt that the Geely Galaxy did not meet my expectations for high-end vehicles. However, the SEA architecture has finally arrived, and the Galaxy E8, built on the SEA architecture, is finally here.
Why am I so insistent on the SEA architecture? In my view, this electric vehicle technology brand, which cost 18 billion yuan and took four years to develop, is almost synonymous with high-end vehicles in the Geely lineup.
The SEA architecture has not only given birth to high-end boutique cars like the smart #1 and large vehicles like the Zeekr 009, but it has also produced performance monsters like the Zeekr 001FR with four motors and nearly 1,000 horsepower. Even the million-yuan Lotus Emeya is built on the EPA platform evolved from the SEA architecture.
Now, let’s shift our focus back to the Galaxy E8. This car has dimensions of 5010mm in length, 1920mm in width, and 1465mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2925mm. Clearly, compared to the earlier Galaxy L6 and L7 models, the Galaxy E8’s body specifications are already sufficiently high-end.
In terms of intelligence, the Galaxy E8 will feature a massive 45-inch 8K display inside, with a screen-to-body ratio of 98%, and an effective display area of 1130mm x 138mm. Additionally, this screen will be equipped with the new generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 cockpit chip and a new vehicle system.
Moreover, it is worth mentioning that, according to previous information released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Galaxy E8 has also applied for optional items such as roof-mounted LiDAR, fender cameras, and radar for perception hardware. Therefore, this new car is likely to possess advanced intelligent driving capabilities in the future.
Regarding performance and range, the Galaxy E8 does not emphasize extreme performance. It will be equipped with a drive motor with a maximum power of 200kW and a lithium iron phosphate battery. From this information, it seems that while the Galaxy E8 has a strong technological aspect, it will still follow a more affordable pricing strategy.
If I remember correctly, in Geely Galaxy’s naming convention, E represents pure electric, odd numbers represent SUV models, and even numbers represent sedans. Therefore, the Galaxy E8 should be the highest-positioned pure electric flagship sedan in the Geely Galaxy product matrix. Additionally, considering the current market positioning of the hardcore L6 and L7, I predict that the starting price of the Galaxy E8 will be around 200,000 yuan.A mid-to-large pure electric sedan under the SEA architecture priced around 200,000 yuan, equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip and advanced intelligent driving technology supported by LiDAR.
