It has been a while since I shared my work. Recently, I have been busy, but today I took some time to share a challenging case with you all.
Earlier today, a client in the group called for help, saying that his computer automatically starts when plugged in, but the CPU fan only runs for a couple of seconds before there is no response. When he presses the power button, it feels like there is no power at all. He asked if there was a way to solve this.
I initially judged that the motherboard was short-circuited and needed to see the specific situation through a video call.
So, I added him as a friend and conducted a video call to observe.
As he described, after powering on, the fan runs for a few seconds and then stops, and pressing the power button yields no response.
When encountering such issues, it is advisable to use a process of elimination.
During the video call, I instructed him to remove the CMOS battery and power it on again; it still only ran for a moment before stopping.
Then, I had him remove both RAM sticks and power it on again; it still only ran for a moment before stopping.
Next, I asked him to disconnect the 24-pin power cable and the CPU auxiliary power cable, press the power button to discharge, and then test again.
He found that the fan could run continuously this time.
I told him to reconnect the 24+4 pin power cables, insert one RAM stick, install the battery, and the graphics card, and then power it on again.
However, the problem reappeared; it ran for a moment and then stopped.
So, we had to continue troubleshooting.
First, I asked him to remove the graphics card and power it on; it continued running.
When he reinserted the graphics card, it stopped again.
The problem likely lies with the graphics card or its slot.
I instructed him to clean the gold fingers of the graphics card and RAM.
Then he found a tweezers and scraped inside the graphics card slot to remove any oxidation and dust particles.
After reinstalling everything, we powered it on again.
It successfully booted into the operating system desktop.
Then, the payment was received.
