Every year, September and October are peak seasons for electronic products, and various updated products always attract consumers’ attention. Speaking of these smartphones and computers, they are getting thinner and smaller, while televisions and monitors are becoming thinner and larger. So what secrets do these displays hold?

Almost every electronic information product relies on liquid crystal displays. Liquid crystal has permeated every aspect of our lives, from the earliest electronic watches to LCD televisions, from monochrome calculators to smartphones and laptops. Liquid crystal has been widely applied in various display fields.

01
What is Liquid Crystal?
Liquid crystal is a viscous solution, and depending on the type of electronic product and its function, the liquid crystal materials can be quite different.
According to the classification by display color, there are mainly two categories: one is monochrome liquid crystal materials used for calculators, dashboards, etc., and the other is color liquid crystals used in televisions, computers, and smartphones. Although it appears to be liquid, it is actually not a liquid.

At low temperatures, it is in a crystalline structure; at high temperatures, it becomes a liquid. At intermediate temperatures, it exists in a liquid crystal state, also known as the liquid crystal phase. In other words, what we commonly refer to as “liquid crystal” is a special state of matter that presents a form that is neither solid, liquid, nor gas within a certain temperature range, having the anisotropy of crystals and the fluidity of liquids.

How Does Liquid Crystal Display?
The nematic liquid crystal molecules are originally oriented in different directions. By applying an electric field, under the influence of the electric field, their orientation is deflected, controlling the passage of light, thus achieving liquid crystal display.

Liquid crystal displays are probably the most common liquid crystal products we see.
Today, liquid crystal drop filling technology has become quite mature, not only providing uniform filling but also being fast and efficient. More importantly, the thickness between the two glass substrates has been greatly reduced, making it possible to present high-definition picture quality and enabling the manufacturing of large-size liquid crystal displays.
