The First Step to Becoming an Installation Artist

Have you put your 2022 study plan on the agenda after the New Year’s Day?

Still not arranged? Not sure where to start?

Have you visited GENTLE MONSTER HAUS Shanghai or the sensational SKPS artificial sheepfold from a few years ago in Beijing?

Why not set your first self-study goal for the new year and step back a little from pure digital creation to experience installation art?

[ Installation Art ]

Installation Art — Installation Art is a non-functional, decorative physical product. It carries the creator’s agile thoughts and gives the viewer a perception experience that transcends all flat displays, utilizing various influencing parameters in the environment to give the space a strong “interactivity”.

[ in Commercials ]

In recent years, commercial spaces have frequently utilized art installations to amplify marketing effects. This has allowed more users to enhance their visual impact and aesthetic perception during the shopping process, increasing customer (potential) interest and promoting brand image, products, or services.

Taking the Korean eyewear retail brand GENTLE MONSTER as an example, “through visual innovation, continuously providing consumers with fresh experiences.” It must be said that this strategy, which invests heavily in store displays, has not only made GENTLE MONSTER a luxury brand that breaks the circle but also allowed it to achieve sales of 200 million dollars in 2019. Financial institutions estimate that it will continue to grow at a rate of 3-4 times per year and enter the unicorn brand club of 1 billion dollars.

Of course, GENTLE MONSTER is not the first brand to do this:

Major comprehensive commercial entities also frequently update art installations in their spaces, giving customers a refreshing feeling every time they visit the mall:

Currently, whether in the art industry or commercial exhibitions, installation art is undoubtedly a hot field.

Friends interested in this field often have infinite creative inspiration and impulses; yet they do not know how these physical installations interact, thus unable to implement a feasible plan for their ideas.

This involves my knowledge blind spot!

Reconstructing a new knowledge system is too slow and difficult!

Similar course pain points

Arduino advancement is slow memorizing words can only lead to abandon, learning Arduino will always stay at lighting up an LED, from basic knowledge to application creation (somewhat substantial mechanical installations, lighting installations) is a long journey.

Difficulty in combining interactive visuals with hardware There is inspiration for visual creation, but do not know how to link it with physical installations.

High cost of commercial hardware Common TouchDesigner peripherals are mainly commercial hardware, often costing thousands, which puts a lot of budget pressure on individual and small team creations.

Low reference value of courses Some courses lack the function of indexing knowledge points.
