At the global technology conference held in Las Vegas, a car display screen was showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show, and many people were amazed by the large size of this display, which reached 48 inches. The head of Byton claimed that this is not a prop from a science fiction movie.
Byton’s cars are expected to be manufactured by the end of the year, with the ultra-large display provided by BOE Technology Group. Many industry insiders believe that due to the continuous impact of autonomous driving and the Internet of Vehicles on traditional automotive industries, the increasing size of ultra-large displays and in-car displays will be an undeniable trend in the automotive industry.
The Chief Design Officer of Mercedes-Benz said: “The screen is the window to the digital world, the screen is the new horsepower.”
In addition to the central console, the sizes of dashboard driving control devices and rear-seat entertainment displays are also continuously increasing. Furthermore, car manufacturers are adding a rearview mirror display to project images from the rear camera;
while the “head-up display” projects images floating on the windshield to convey valuable information to the driver, which is an explosive market.
According to data, the global average size of vehicle center displays was 7.7 inches in 2018, and it is expected to grow to 8.4 inches by 2024.
Experts say that head-up displays are the fastest-growing displays, with approximately 6.3 million vehicles globally equipped with this display, and this number is expected to reach 14.1 million by 2024.
When Tesla launched its 17-inch LCD display model in 2012, many people were understandably hesitant to accept such a large display; however, it has been proven that Tesla’s influence goes beyond that.
Thanks to this influence, many car manufacturers have integrated Apple or Google for the best experience, yet have provided users with a cumbersome experience, creating screens that are oversized but offer no real benefits.
Therefore, in-car displays are not only limited to the screens themselves but also rely on backend technologies driven by content. Larger screens can enhance vehicle safety by providing more useful information, allowing drivers to avoid struggling with chaotic selections on small screens, thereby reducing driving distractions.
