Standard Process for ECU Reprogramming and Data Retrieval

The ECU is the brain of our vehicle. When a fault occurs,
the ECU will report the corresponding fault code,
allowing technicians to diagnose and repair the issue.
However, some fault codes that affect the normal operation of the vehicle cannot be cleared even after repairs, causing confusion and frustration for technicians. So how can we clear these unremovable fault codes? First, let’s watch the video below.

As you can see in the video, it shows a self-developed computer board from Xichai. When it encounters some unremovable fault codes, we can use the diagnostic expert’s reprogramming function to write data to the ECU, thereby clearing the fault codes.

Before reprogramming, we need to note down key data. Enter the device to read the version information, at the bottom there is a customer production file version, which is a unique identification code for reprogramming the Xichai computer board. This code is needed to find the corresponding data during the reprogramming process.

Another method to find data without using a unique identification code is to match data using horsepower and engine information. However, many technicians repair various vehicles, and each vehicle has different information, making it difficult to observe the engine nameplate. Therefore, this method is clearly not as quick and convenient as the first one. It is still recommended for technicians to use the first method to find data, and this is just for educational purposes.

When entering the data retrieval interface, we can see three options:

The first: Normal data writing selection.

The second: When the Xichai ECU encounters some post-processing related unremovable fault codes, and the vehicle is still in a limited torque state, even after the fault has been repaired, you can choose to write this data to the ECU to perform the code clearing operation.

The third: Data writing to remove speed limits. Many technicians might know that the Bosch EDC17 ECU can lift the top speed limit through calibration functions, but Xichai does not support calibration operations on the ECU. Therefore, when encountering speed-limited vehicles, if technicians cannot find calibration, they will be at a loss. In this case, they can resolve the issue by writing the corresponding data.

Knowledge Expansion

Next, let’s introduce the Weichai self-developed computer board and how to find data when encountering reprogramming issues..

Weichai Self-Developed Computer Board

WISE15 without post-processing function, if post-processing is needed, connect to Weichai self-developed DCU. WISE15C has post-processing function and can be directly connected to Bosch 2.2/6.5 urea pump. Weichai WISE15/WISE15C reprogramming references engine type and horsepower, without needing to reference PV number, matching engine model and horsepower is sufficient.

Xichai Self-Developed Jumper Diagram

Sometimes the ECU may have been removed from the vehicle, and technicians will need to use a jumper to enter the system for reprogramming. Today, we bring you a jumper connection method for the Xichai FEUP, hoping to help technicians.

First, the ECU has two plugs, X1 and X2, where X1 controls the whole vehicle and X2 controls the engine.

When we jumper into the program, we connect to the X1 vehicle control end. Power and ground lines each connect one wire. The image below shows the pin number, definition, and connection method.
