Reviving JLINK V8 on Windows 7: Driver Installation Issues

The JLINK driver is installed, and the device manager recognizes it, but the options for SW and JTAG in MDK are grayed out (this is not an issue with JLINK). Therefore, downloading and simulation cannot proceed. I tried uninstalling the JLINK driver and re-installing it, but that didn’t solve the issue, so I decided to flash the firmware.

For specific flashing methods, refer to the “JLINK V8 Firmware Burning Guide”. After opening the JLINK, I found two shorting jumpers, but I initially shorted them in the wrong order, which caused the LED to remain off indefinitely. My hopes were dashed…

However, the software SAM-PROG v2.4 had the write flash button grayed out. I fiddled with the jumpers multiple times, but still could not refresh the firmware.

Later, I opened the device manager and found that the USB device was recognized as GPS CAMERA DETECT. I searched online and found that it should be identified as something starting with ATxxx. So, I updated the driver, manually selected the correct driver, and replaced the incorrect USB driver.

After this, SAM-PROG v2.4 was able to write to the flash, and the active connection was 1. I could download, and after clicking download, the progress was shown, and after a while, the flashing was complete. Once I plugged it in again, it was recognized correctly.

However, in MDK, the issue persisted, so it seems I need to try reinstalling MDK… JLINK works fine on other machines.
