On August 13, the eighth (2025) National College Student Embedded Chip and System Design Competition Application Track National Finals was successfully held in Nanjing. In this competition’s application track, works based on Renesas RA series microcontrollers (MCUs) and RZ series microprocessors (MPUs) showcased diverse innovative design solutions and rich application scenarios, closely aligning with the cutting-edge demands of current industry applications.

Awarding the winning teams
The Renesas track, a newly established competition direction for the 2025 event, attracted over 1,000 participating teams. After multiple rounds of evaluation by experts from universities and enterprises, the Renesas track ultimately selected 11 first prize teams, 20 second prizes, and 40 third prizes. Among them, the projects “Rapid Detection System for Lithium Batteries Based on RZ Platform and PINN” and “In-Vehicle Intelligent Security Token and Its Auxiliary Traffic System Based on Renesas RA8D1” were awarded the “Renesas Hope Cup” corporate award, fully demonstrating the solid technical foundation and outstanding innovation capabilities of participating universities in the field of embedded systems.

At the beginning of this year, Renesas Electronics officially signed a long-term strategic cooperation agreement with the competition organizing committee, officially becoming a partner of the National College Student Embedded Chip and System Design Competition and establishing a dedicated Renesas competition track. As a result, Renesas Electronics began to deeply participate in the National College Student Embedded Chip and System Design Competition and will continue to be involved in the long term. This initiative aims to stimulate the innovative potential of young students by building a practice-oriented innovation platform and systematically cultivate high-quality professionals that meet industry needs, thereby promoting high-quality development across the entire industry.
Beyond the competition, Renesas Electronics looks forward to deep cooperation with universities nationwide in various dimensions such as teaching content and curriculum reform, faculty training, joint laboratories, discipline competitions, and research projects, closely aligning with industry development needs to jointly build a “chip” ecosystem for talent cultivation that integrates industry and academia.
The eighth National College Student Embedded Chip and System Design Competition Application Track will kick off in March 2025, with 11,800 registered teams, 32,388 participating students, and 735 participating universities. After selection from seven major sub-regions including East, Southwest, Northwest, North, Central, South, and overseas, 1,077 teams from 326 universities, including Southeast University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Xi’an University of Electronic Science and Technology, Xiamen University, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology, advanced to the national finals. After two days of competition evaluation, a total of 158 teams won first prizes, 311 teams won second prizes, and 550 teams won third prizes.
