Today we are reviewing the Onda M3-H110 mini PC, which has made some changes based on the previously introduced M3-B81. The Onda M3-H110 is a product that requires self-assembly, catering to consumers who enjoy hands-on activities, but this setup also gives consumers greater freedom in configuration choices.

The packaging of the Onda M3-H110 is simple and fresh, from which we can roughly guess the color of the product. Upon opening the box, we first see the top of the Onda M3-H110, with a luxurious gold color that looks very striking, which is one of the mainstream choices today. After all, gold is one of the representatives of precious metals, making the product look more valuable; of course, how well the product works is the most important.

The Onda M3-H110 has a square body with rounded corners, preventing any sharp edges, while the diamond cutting process makes the top edges more shiny and eye-catching. The iconic Onda logo is located on the upper left side of the front panel, in a minimalist style. We did not see the power button on the front panel or top of the Onda M3-H110, but upon turning the device around, we found it positioned on the back right side, which does not affect the overall aesthetics.

The I/O panel of the Onda M3-H110 is quite rich, with interfaces from left to right: microphone, headphone, USB 3.0×4, RJ-45, USB 2.0×2, HDMI×3, and power interface. Additionally, the two circular holes will be introduced later.

The bottom of the Onda M3-H110 features a large area of hollow design, with a very unique shape, which should perform well in terms of heat dissipation. Also, there are two circular holes on top; what are they used for?

Onda M3-H110: DIY Assembly

Onda M3 Mini PC Review: A Compact Powerhouse

As mentioned earlier, the Onda M3-H110 requires self-assembly. Upon opening the case, we found that aside from the motherboard, there was nothing else inside, indicating that there are other components in the box that we need to assemble. After removing the top foam padding, we found some accessories in the lower layer: power adapter, power cable, cooler, L-shaped aluminum bracket, T-shaped head bracket, etc… it seems something is missing? No CPU, memory, or hard drive! What are you doing?!

With no choice, I had to borrow some components from a colleague. The M.2 SSD, sixth-generation Core desktop processor, and DDR4 memory were finally gathered. It is especially worth mentioning that the Onda M3-H110 is the first mini PC product that supports desktop-level processors, which means its performance can surpass that of low-voltage processors; of course, the price is also different.

After installing the three main components, we finally installed the cooler and organized the cables, completing the assembly. As for whether it can power on, we will test that shortly.

Onda M3-H110: Two Placement Methods

Onda M3 Mini PC Review: A Compact Powerhouse

Typically, mini PCs are placed flat on the desk, but the Onda M3-H110 comes with two brackets, allowing for two placement methods, which involves the four circular holes mentioned earlier.

By combining the T-shaped head bracket and the L-shaped aluminum bracket, we can achieve the effect shown in the image above. The benefit of this is that it allows the bottom of the chassis’s cooling vents to fully contact the air for better heat dissipation, while also looking more stylish.

If the previous placement method was horizontal, then this one is vertical, achieved with just the L-shaped aluminum bracket, also achieving sufficient heat dissipation. Users can choose between vertical or horizontal placement methods based on their environment, providing great flexibility.

Onda M3-H110: Weight and Heat Dissipation Performance

Onda M3 Mini PC Review: A Compact Powerhouse

The complete Onda M3-H110 mini PC has been placed on the electronic scale, weighing 1.158 kg without the bracket, and a total weight of 1.577 kg with the adapter. Even when choosing other processors, memory, and SSDs, the weight difference will not be significant.

Heat Dissipation Test

For this heat dissipation test, we did not choose the traditional extreme stress test, but instead simulated real working conditions. After thirty minutes of use, including Office, PS, and web browsing functions, we obtained a heat map. The temperature on the top of the Onda M3-H110 mini PC ranged from 35 to 40°C, while the bottom was slightly higher at around 40°C, as it is closer to the circuit board, with the temperature touching the fan module reaching 48.8°C.

I don’t know if it was due to the high load of the i7-6700 processor I chose or other reasons, but during use, the fan of the Onda M3-H110 mini PC occasionally spun at high speed. Although this can be understood as beneficial for heat dissipation, the noise was also slightly louder.

■ PConline Review Room Summary

As a mini PC product, the Onda M3-H110 performs very well in terms of appearance, size, heat dissipation, and hardware. As the first mini PC product that can accommodate desktop processors, it can compete with desktops in terms of performance limits, providing an excellent experience for performance enthusiasts. The Onda M3-H110’s feature is that users can control the hardware configuration of the product themselves, allowing for custom matching of the three main components, and while it may seem cumbersome to assemble, it is actually a great hands-on opportunity for consumers who enjoy DIY projects.
