Recently, the Xiamen New Materials Technology Research Institute was officially inaugurated, marking a key step for Xiamen in deepening the integration of technological innovation and industrial innovation, and promoting breakthroughs in high-end semiconductor materials technology.

The research institute will focus on the research and development of cutting-edge technologies such as electronic-grade 12N ultra-pure polysilicon (purity 99.9999999999%), accelerating breakthroughs in the “bottleneck” issues of semiconductor materials, and injecting new momentum into the integrated circuit industry in Xiamen and across the country.
Focusing on Cutting-Edge Technologies
Building a Domestic Alternative ‘Core Engine’
The new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation is accelerating, and semiconductor materials, as the cornerstone of the integrated circuit industry, are crucial for self-control. The Xiamen New Materials Technology Research Institute leverages the advantages of Sino-Japanese joint ventures, integrating resources from over a hundred international top technical experts from Japan’s CDM Corporation, covering the entire industrial chain technology from high-purity quartz sand to 8/12-inch silicon epitaxial wafers. The core team of the institute includes industry authorities such as the inventor of electronic-grade 11N polysilicon technology, Mr. Tian Changsan, and the inventor of the magnetic-free direct pulling method for semiconductor silicon single crystal preparation, Mr. Chu Chun, forming an “all-star” technical lineup, expected to achieve original innovations in semiconductor materials from “0 to 1”.
Government-Enterprise Collaborative Efforts
Accelerating the ‘Xiamen Speed’ of Industrial Landing
From negotiations in Tokyo to establishing roots in Haicang took only five months, the rapid establishment of the research institute reflects the significant effectiveness of Xiamen’s optimization of the business environment and strengthening industrial services, showcasing Xiamen’s determination and efficiency in promoting the integration of technological innovation and industry. The first batch of the research institute plans eight industrialization projects, expected to achieve a production capacity of tens of thousands of tons of high-purity polysilicon, which will effectively fill the gap in Xiamen’s large silicon wafer materials and strengthen the semiconductor materials and equipment industry cluster.
Deepening the ‘Three Chains Integration’
Building a New Ecosystem for Industrial Development
In recent years, Xiamen has insisted on focusing on the integrated circuit as a key industry, forming a full-chain layout of design, manufacturing, packaging testing, and third-generation semiconductors with characteristic processes as the main path. The Haicang Integrated Circuit Industrial Park has been rated as one of the “Top Ten Excellent Parks for High-Quality Development of China’s Integrated Circuits” for three consecutive years, and the ‘Three Chains Integration’ model has won the national-level industrial chain cooperation award. The addition of the research institute will further strengthen the “technology-talent-industry” closed loop, promote the local transformation and industrialization of international top technologies, and provide solid support for Xiamen to build a regionally competitive integrated circuit industry hub.
