Before the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 series, Samsung has released the Exynos 9825, which is also the world’s first SoC using the 7nm EUV process. As a representative SoC in high-end flagship devices, can the 9825 be called the light of Android while competitors like Snapdragon are still catching up?
In terms of specifications, the Exynos 9825 CPU consists of 2 custom cores + 2 large Cortex-A75 cores + 4 small Cortex-A55 cores in an 8-core architecture; the GPU is a 12-core Mali-G76 GPU; specific frequencies have not been disclosed, but it has been stated that the 7nm EUV process provides significant improvements over the previous generation 9820.

In detail, the Exynos 9825 chip integrates Samsung’s NPU, supports HDR10+ displays with a maximum resolution of 4K UHD, LPDDR4x, and UFS 3.0. It supports video encoding and decoding at up to 8K resolution at 30FPS or 4K resolution at 150FPS, and integrates a 4G LTE-A modem, which can be paired with the Exynos 5100 modem for 5G support.

It is worth mentioning that the most remarkable feature of the Exynos 9825 is that it is the world’s first mass-produced SoC using the 7nm EUV process. The official statement also indicates that Samsung’s 7nm EUV process can improve transistor performance by 20-30% while reducing power consumption by 30-50%. Originally, the 7nm EUV was supposed to be launched first by Kirin 985, but it seems that Kirin will only be able to claim it as TSMC’s first 7nm EUV.

In terms of benchmark scores, GeekBench shows that the Samsung Exynos 9825 has a single-core score of 4495 (far exceeding Snapdragon 855 Plus) and a multi-core score of 10223 (lagging behind 855).

Additionally, it has been reported that the Note 10 series will only use Snapdragon processors in the United States, while other markets, including the Chinese version, will be equipped with the Exynos 9825. If this news is true, it will finally provide an opportunity to experience Samsung’s flagship device!

Do you think the 9825 can become the new light of Android?
