“All hardware facilities in the operation room are fully equipped, food storage and preservation are all done using refrigerators and freezers, and the health of the operators is guaranteed through regular health checks…” As another school season begins, the Shangcai County Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision has established a special inspection team to conduct “embedded” supervision of food safety in canteens across all primary and secondary schools and kindergartens in the county, comprehensively understanding the implementation of food safety responsibilities by functional departments in schools. The county’s Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision coordinates the supervision forces from “rooms, groups, and localities” and collaborates with education, market regulation, health, and other functional departments to conduct in-depth inspections of food storage rooms, processing areas, and dishwashing and disinfection areas in all primary and secondary schools and kindergartens. They check food storage, dish disinfection, hygiene management, and health certificates of canteen staff, focusing on the cleanliness of kitchen environments, the adequacy of fly and rodent prevention facilities, and the completeness and normal operation of necessary disinfection facilities, ensuring that students can eat with confidence and peace of mind.At the same time, the county’s Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision leverages the “close” supervision advantage of the stationed disciplinary inspection teams by attending meetings, providing guidance, and conducting discussions to supervise and promote the county’s education bureau and market supervision administration in identifying integrity risk points in school canteens. They conduct unannounced inspections of school canteens and surrounding supermarkets, snack shops, and convenience stores, promptly carrying out food safety risk assessments, tightening the responsibilities of the education department and the regulatory responsibilities of functional departments, and working together to strengthen the bottom line of food safety in schools. For issues and loopholes discovered during supervision and inspection, those that can be rectified on-site are immediately fed back to the schools or relevant departments for prompt action. For those that cannot be rectified on-site, a “problem list” is compiled, and a work ledger is established, with continuous follow-up and supervision to ensure that relevant units and departments rectify and close out each issue, ensuring real, effective, and thorough changes. They are also required to conduct comprehensive checks on food source, storage, and distribution risks. As of now, the special inspection team has inspected over 40 various schools across the county, identifying 11 issues, all of which have been rectified immediately.“The supervision and inspection by the Commission for Discipline Inspection have helped us identify and solve problems. Now, both students and parents have reported that the management of the canteen has become more standardized, and satisfaction and recognition rates have significantly increased,” said a school leader in the county.“Food safety is related to the well-being of the people, and responsibilities must be tightened and managed continuously. Next, we will continue to focus on key areas and critical links in campus food safety work, responding to public concerns with tangible results in improving conduct and discipline, and maintaining strong supervision to safeguard the ‘safety on the tip of the tongue’ for the vast number of teachers and students,” said a relevant official from the county’s Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision.
