This time, let’s take a look at how the Xiating Community
transformed the “scrap” spaces of the community
into “happiness points” for residents.
Xiating Community took the opportunity of the embedded renovation project to activate and integrate various spatial resources, turning previously idle public spaces intoa comprehensive activity center that integrates culture, entertainment, fitness, and multi-functional shared spaces for all ages, extending more possibilities for residents to enjoy a quality life.
Breaking the Deadlock From “Nowhere to Go” to “Enjoying the Space”
In the past, the community lacked public facilities, making it difficult to meet residents’ leisure and entertainment needs. Many residents, especially the elderly and children, could only engage in activities in the square or by the roadside outside the community, which were poorly equipped and posed safety risks. In response to this pain point, the community party committee oriented its efforts towards residents’ needs, scientifically planning and upgrading the existing spaces.

During the renovation process, the community widely solicited residents’ opinions through surveys and resident forums to gain a deeper understanding of their needs and expectations. At the same time, considering the community’s space conditions, some office spaces were transformed into activity rooms for residents. Now, the renovated activity center has been revitalized, with dance rooms, calligraphy and painting rooms, table tennis rooms, fitness rooms, women’s and children’s homes, and libraries six functional areas arranged in a way that meets the needs of residents of all ages.
Aunt Li, a dance enthusiast, remarked: “I used to only dance in the square, exposed to the wind and sun, and worried about disturbing others. Now, with a dedicated dance room, mysense of happiness has skyrocketed! Not only that, the community has also equipped the dance team with professional sound and lighting equipment, allowing residents to fully enjoy the joy of dancing in a comfortable environment.
Craftsmanship Details Empowering Quality Life
Every corner of the activity center reflects
the thoughtful design of “people-oriented”.
Entering the dance room, the anti-slip flooring not only protects residents’ ankles but also reduces the risk of slipping; the full-wall mirrors allow dancers to better adjust their postures, while the surround sound system enhances the music experience. In the calligraphy and painting room, all the necessary tools are available, and sunlight streams through the floor-to-ceiling windows onto the rice paper, inspiring artistic creation. Resident Mr. Zhang stated:“Writing and painting here makes me feel immersed in an artistic atmosphere.”
The fitness room is equipped with various fitness equipment from running to cycling, meeting the fitness needs of residents of different ages. The community also regularly invites professional trainers to guide residents on how to use the equipment correctly to avoid sports injuries. The women’s and children’s home is designed with warm colors and safe soft furnishings, becoming a cozy haven for parent-child interaction. The library has transformed into the community’s “spiritual granary,” attracting readers of all ages to enjoy reading time.
Gathering Strength Culture Enriching Neighborhood Bonds
The renovated activity center has become a
“spiritual station” where neighbors connect and share warmth.
During table tennis competitions, residents of all ages engage in friendly matches, filling the venue with laughter. Parent-child craft classes attract many families to participate, allowing children to create handmade products alongside their parents, enhancing their practical skills while strengthening their parent-child relationships. The calligraphy and painting exhibition is also a highlight of the community, showcasing residents’ talents and adding to the cultural atmosphere.
In addition, the community regularly holds safety knowledge dissemination,health lectures, legal consultations and other activities to meet the diverse needs of residents. Through these activities, the connections among community residents have become closer, and neighborly relationships have become more harmonious.
Next, Xiating Community will
take this embedded renovation as a new starting point
to integrate various resources and continuously optimize services
to make the “15-minute living circle” not just convenient
but also a vibrant and warm “happiness circle”“
allowing residents to gain a sense of happiness right at their doorstep.
