In 2025, the provincial high-quality development conference proposed to make a strong commitment and focus on the two major fields of artificial intelligence and robotics. In March of this year, the provincial party committee and government issued the “Several Policy Measures for Promoting the Innovative Development of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Industries in Guangdong Province,” gathering the best resources and concentrating the greatest efforts to promote the high-quality development of artificial intelligence and robotics.

Currently, our province has become one of the main clusters for the domestic artificial intelligence and robotics industries. By 2024, the scale of the core artificial intelligence industry in the province is expected to exceed 220 billion yuan, firmly ranking among the top in the country; the production of industrial robots has increased from 44,700 units in 2019 to 246,800 units in 2024, accounting for 44% of the national total and maintaining the first position in the country for five consecutive years.

On the morning of April 22, Chen Lei, Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, led a session on Guangdong’s “People’s Voice Hotline,” introducing the relevant policy measures to promote the high-quality development of artificial intelligence and robotics industries, responding to the development demands of enterprises and the public’s concerns in the field of intelligent applications. An interactive demonstration was also conducted with the “Kuafu” robot from Shenzhen, showcasing the cutting-edge development trends of Guangdong’s artificial intelligence and robotics industries.

Relevant officials stated that the Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology plans to lead the organization of a series of “Artificial Intelligence +” and “Robotics +” application scenarios, formulating a new round of action plans for intelligent robots, focusing on promoting technological innovation, optimizing industrial layout, nurturing leading enterprises, deepening demonstration and promotion, and strengthening the support system, aiming to cultivate several leading enterprises and a batch of specialized and innovative enterprises, creating a new highland for the development of artificial intelligence and robotics industries with global influence. At the same time, focusing on areas such as education, urban management services, healthcare, and elderly care services, the promotion and application of intelligent robots will be carried out to enhance the reliability and safety of human-machine interaction, meeting the diverse needs of the public for intelligent living.

In response to the issues raised by technology companies regarding the lack of unified industry standards, difficulties in the integration of systems and terminals, and the connection between research and application, relevant officials responded that they would vigorously support core technology breakthroughs through policies and promote co-creation and sharing among enterprises by cultivating open-source communities, creating a unified system foundation to empower industry development. Regarding public concerns about AI technology applications in education and healthcare, such as computing power sharing, data security, and approval certification, relevant officials introduced that a data security system would be constructed based on legal standards and technical means, accelerating the application of artificial intelligence with a prudent regulatory attitude, actively supporting the landing and promotion of scenarios while strictly ensuring compliance, enhancing the speed of technological iteration and market investment under the premise of compliance, and addressing the “last mile” of AI technology benefiting people’s livelihoods.
