The domestic open-source hardware manufacturer Sipeed is set to launch a RISC-V handheld console — Lichee Pocket 4A, with official images now revealed.
In terms of design, the Lichee Pocket 4A references the popular Nintendo Switch, featuring a detachable controller design. Its dimensions are 18 x 11 x 37.5px, weighing 490g; when the controller is attached, it measures 25 x 11 x 75px and weighs approximately 590-630 grams.
Regarding the system, this handheld can run either Android or Debian, which is why we refer to it as a Linux handheld. Although the promotional images show the Lichee Pocket 4A running the game Genshin Impact, given the supported platforms for this game (ARM, x86), it is likely not running natively on the handheld.
The controller features a transparent shell design, equipped with a 7-inch 1280 x 800 resolution LCD touchscreen, a 6000 mAh battery, detachable controllers, and a plastic and aluminum body. The device itself weighs about 490 grams, and with the controller, it weighs 630 grams.
The core of the device is the Sipeed LM4A module, featuring the SiFive U74 processor, which includes four RISC-V architecture-based U74 CPU cores, 8GB or 16GB LPDDR4x memory, and 32GB or 128GB eMMC storage.
The device also includes an Imagination BXM-4-64 GPU and an NPU with AI performance of 4 TOPS.
In terms of interfaces, the device supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, and a gigabit Ethernet port, with two USB 3.0 Type-A ports, one USB 2.0 Type-C port, and a microSD card reader. It also features a 5MP OmniVision OV5693 camera, stereo speakers, and a microphone.
