Whether it’s the sci-fi visions in the movie “The Wandering Earth” or the AI robot ChatGDP, artificial intelligence and robotics are gradually becoming hot topics of discussion, even sparking strong interest among children. On the afternoon of February 8, the Fenglin Road community held a fun science class on artificial intelligence and robotics at the Party-Mass Service Center, attracting many children to come and experience it.
Under the guidance of the teacher, the children first visited the “Embrace Carbon Neutrality” science corridor, which clearly introduced what carbon neutrality and carbon peaking are, the significance of carbon neutrality for the ecological environment, and more. There were also many interesting smart machines that allowed the children to have a preliminary experience of artificial intelligence and robotics, such as wearing VR glasses to immerse themselves in the wonders of the virtual world or riding a special bicycle to light up a bulb and experience the magic of technology.
With a visual understanding, the teacher then explained the relationship between artificial intelligence and robotics to the children, starting with familiar devices like vacuum robots and voice assistants, and then discussing the evolution of robots. The children listened intently, occasionally bursting with creative questions for the teacher.After the science introduction, the children began to assemble a crawling robot under the teacher’s guidance. Following the steps to slowly assemble the parts, the crawling robot is not large, but to make it move on its own, every assembly step must be correct, especially when installing the motor and adjusting the wires, which tests the children’s comprehension skills. The first to complete the assembly was a seven or eight-year-old girl, and after inserting the battery, the robot could move on the ground. Seeing the robot she built with her own hands, the seed of science fiction was planted in the children’s hearts. “I have my own robot now, I’m so happy, and I will continue to learn more about this field in the future,” she said.It is reported that to better help young people understand and master scientific knowledge, and to stimulate scientific interest, the Fenglin Road community has prepared a series of fun science winter camp activities, including exploring the mysteries of the universe and understanding the construction process of marine ecosystems, leading children to explore technology together.
