Recently, in the 10 kV substation located in the second area of Baishilong Village, Longhua District, an intelligent live cleaning robot equipped with a mechanical arm flexibly adjusted the nozzle angle and used non-contact spraying technology to perform precise cleaning on the operating substation equipment, achieving a breakthrough in “robotic live cleaning of substation equipment.” This achievement fills the application gap in live cleaning technology for distribution networks and marks a shift in substation operation and maintenance from “high-risk operations” to “intelligent operation and maintenance,” opening up new technical pathways for the intelligent operation and maintenance of urban power grids.

Due to dust accumulation, substation equipment can experience a decline in insulation performance and increased vibration noise. To enhance equipment operational stability, regular cleaning is necessary. Traditionally, the power-off cleaning method requires a series of preliminary preparations, including emergency generator connection, site power-off, cleaning, and power restoration, all performed by maintenance personnel. However, with the use of the live cleaning robot, cleaning operations can be conducted without power interruption, requiring only prior approval for live work applications to proceed at designated times. “With the introduction of the cleaning robot, maintenance personnel no longer need to closely approach high-voltage equipment with insulated spray guns, avoiding the safety risks associated with traditional cleaning operations while improving single-operation efficiency by 40%,” said a representative from the Longhua Power Supply Bureau.

The live cleaning robot is equipped with an insulated cleaning agent storage container, allowing maintenance personnel to remotely control the robot’s movement and operate the mechanical arm using an intelligent control system. During operation, the robot can achieve a vertical lift of 2 meters for the cleaning nozzle platform, adjust up and down by 90 degrees, and rotate left and right by 360 degrees without dead angles. Maintenance personnel can accurately target key parts of equipment such as transformer high and low voltage bushings and terminals for precise cleaning.

This operation, characterized by a new maintenance model of zero risk, zero perception, explores new technical pathways for the intelligent operation and maintenance of urban power grids. It will be fully promoted in the future to enhance distribution network operation and maintenance capabilities, providing more stable and reliable power supply for regional high-quality development,” said Zou Yang, General Manager of the Longhua Power Supply Bureau.

In recent years, Longhua District has completed 30 urban village power supply rectifications, adding and upgrading a total of 130 distribution transformers, with a new capacity of approximately 122,000 kVA. The average load supply capacity per unit area has doubled, expected to meet the load growth demand for the next 10 years, benefiting 286,000 households. By 2024, the average power outage time for customers in the district is expected to be reduced to 8.65 minutes per household, successfully achieving the 10-minute target ahead of schedule, surpassing levels in New York and Paris. Additionally, the Longhua Power Supply Bureau has ranked first for three consecutive years in the satisfaction ratings of 40 government public services in Longhua District.

Moving forward, the Longhua District Development and Reform Bureau will work with the Longhua Power Supply Bureau and other relevant units to thoroughly implement the district committee and government deployment requirements, increase coordination efforts, and integrate the use of “AI + electricity” and other new energy production capabilities to enhance the operation and maintenance capabilities of the 10 kV distribution network, vigorously promote the high-quality development of urban power infrastructure, and accelerate the establishment of a demonstration zone for the integrated development of digital energy in Longhua.
