It is claimed to be the world’s first true general AI Agent.

The Manus team explains that, unlike traditional AI assistants, Manus is a truly autonomous AI Agent. Manus not only provides suggestions or answers but can also directly deliver complete task results.

Specifically, what can it do?

In a 4-minute video released on the official website, the first demonstration showcases resume screening tasks. The official sent Manus a compressed file containing 10 resumes, and Manus was able to screen them according to the requirements, just like a human HR.

Manus first unzips the file, then browses each resume one by one, extracting key information. It supports asynchronous processing, so you can turn off your computer while the task is in progress, and it will notify you when it’s done. During this time, you can also send new instructions to Manus at any time. Next, it continues to upload 5 more resumes. After carefully analyzing all 15 resumes, Manus provides ranking suggestions along with candidate profiles and evaluation criteria for reference.

It can even generate spreadsheets based on user habits.

Manus possesses knowledge and memory capabilities, so the next time it performs a similar task, it will deliver results directly in the form of a spreadsheet.

In the second demonstration video, the official asked Manus to select suitable communities to live in, taking into account family income and children’s schooling needs, with the location to be in New York, and the conditions to be safe with a low crime rate.

It can be seen that this requirement contains multiple smaller needs. When handling such complex tasks, Manus can easily break them down into multiple steps and create a detailed to-do list.

  • Search and read articles about the safest communities in New York.

  • Research the middle school situation in New York.

  • Write a Python program to calculate the budget.

  • Filter suitable properties on real estate websites based on the budget.

  • Integrate all information, write a detailed report, and organize relevant materials.

In the third demonstration, Manus transformed into a professional stock analyst, tasked with analyzing the correlation of stock prices of NVIDIA, Marvell Technology, and TSMC over the past three years.

It accessed authoritative financial data sources through API interfaces, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of the data. After verifying the data, Manus began writing code that would be used for in-depth analysis of the stock price trends of the three companies and generating intuitive visual charts to reveal their correlations. After completing the in-depth analysis and visualization of the stock price data of NVIDIA, Marvell Technology, and TSMC, Manus showcased its versatility, capable of transforming these analytical results into an interactive website. With explicit user authorization, Manus deployed this insightful website to the cloud, making it accessible online. Users will receive a unique link that they can easily share with colleagues, friends, or anyone interested in this analysis. This process not only demonstrates Manus’s powerful capabilities in data processing and analysis but also reflects its professional insights in the financial field. Through Manus’s analysis, investors can gain a clearer understanding of the underlying connections in the stock price fluctuations of these three tech giants, enabling them to make more informed investment decisions. With the ability to execute so many complex tasks, how does this Agent perform in benchmark tests?According to information from the official website, Manus achieved new state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance across all three difficulty levels in the GAIA benchmark test (which assesses the ability of general AI assistants to solve real-world problems).

So, what is the background of such an outstanding product?

According to publicly available information, the founder behind Manus AI, Xiao Hong, is a 2015 alumnus of the Software Engineering program at Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

Xiao Hong is a serial entrepreneur. He once appeared on an interview program where he provided a mindset of an entrepreneur amidst the waves: “The world is not linearly extrapolated; you must make yourself an important variable in the game.”

After graduation, in 2015, Xiao Hong founded Nightingale Technology, launching the “Yiban Assistant” and “Weiban Assistant,” serving over 2 million B-end users, and receiving investments from Tencent, ZhenFund, and others.

Xiao Hong is also the initiator of another star AI product, Monica.

Monica is an All-in-One AI assistant tool, available in various forms including browser plugins, PC/Mac, and mobile platforms. Monica integrates current mainstream large models, allowing users to chat, translate, process documents, create images, and more with Monica anytime, anywhere.Currently, the Monica plugin has over 1.5 million users worldwide.Xiao Hong shared the reasons for choosing to start from the browser plugin product form at a technology conference: “Overseas, browser plugins are a relatively mainstream product form. For example, Grammarly generates hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue each year, and its browser plugin user base may be in the hundreds of millions. Our core consideration is how AI, as a capability, can adapt to various scenarios. The browser plugin happens to be a product form we discovered that can do this well. Many large companies have developed impressive AI capabilities, but many websites do not immediately integrate these capabilities. When users are browsing, they indeed want to use AI capabilities, and at this time, the browser plugin can smooth out the experience differences across various websites from the user’s perspective. There are also many successful cases of independent developers going overseas. At the end of last year, just 4 days after ChatGPT was released, the person in charge of the instant store “Jishi Duo” (online name: wong2) released a plugin “ChatGPT for Google,” integrating ChatGPT into the search engine and open-sourced it on the same day. From having the idea to starting to write code, and finally going live, wong2 spent less than 12 hours. After more than two months of the ChatGPT for Google going live, the user count exceeded 1 million, and it was subsequently acquired by Monica Company, currently valued at tens of millions of dollars. What do netizens think?
