China to Promote the Development of Mobile IoT Towards ‘All Things Connected’

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology recently issued a notice on “Promoting the Development of Mobile IoT Towards ‘All Things Connected'”, accelerating the transition of mobile IoT from ‘All Things Interconnected’ to ‘All Things Connected’.

Mobile IoT is a new type of information infrastructure that uses mobile communication technology and networks as a carrier, achieving intelligent interconnection of people, machines, and things through multi-network collaboration. It is an important driving force for the digital transformation of the economy and society.

The notice proposes:

  • By the end of 2027, the number of mobile IoT terminal connections will exceed 3.6 billion, with 4G/5G IoT terminal connections accounting for 95%.

  • To cultivate a number of application fields with over 100 million connections and to create several application fields with over 10 million connections.

  • In terms of prosperous industrial ecology, support the construction of more than 5 mobile IoT industrial clusters nationwide, establish over 10 mobile IoT industry demonstration bases, and formulate no less than 30 mobile IoT standards.

Deputy Director of the Application and Industry Department of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, Cao Lei: As of July this year, the number of mobile IoT terminal users developed by basic telecom enterprises reached 2.547 billion, accounting for 59% of the total mobile terminal connections. The pace of mobile network ‘IoT expansion’ continues to grow, widely applied in public services, vehicle networking, smart retail, smart home, and other fields.
